About Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

Copthorne Hotel Newcastle works well for those after a comfortable base by the Tyne rather than a boutique experience. On The Close in Newcastle upon Tyne, it puts the river and its bridges right outside, making it a good pick for couples on a weekend away, business travellers wanting quick access into the city, or anyone who likes to wake up to a proper view.

Rooms are on the spacious side and many look straight out over the water, though it's worth knowing that some have been reported as a little tired in places rather than pristine throughout. Each comes with an en-suite bathroom, and accessible rooms are available. Breakfast is a highlight, with a good spread to set guests up for the day, and there's a restaurant and bar on site for evening meals or a drink after exploring. A gym, lift access and 24-hour reception round out the practical side of things.

Staff are consistently described as helpful and friendly, and the location is rated highly for getting around Newcastle on foot, with pubs, restaurants and other eateries all within easy reach. For the price, it offers solid value, particularly for anyone prioritising position and views over polish.

Good hotel, I think all rooms have a river view. Only had bed & breakfast, breakfast, self serve buffet with good selection of food. Plenty of restaurants available in city, so no problem with this aspect. Immediate access to the riverside promenade. Easy to get to Baltic Centre. Only need to remember if you do not have a vehicle the walk up to the city centre is uphill so may be a factor for elderly people.

I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is perfectly located by the river, and the views from my room overlooking the water were fabulous. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower had excellent pressure, which made the stay even more relaxing. The entire hotel was quiet and peaceful throughout my visit. I also really enjoyed the restaurant and the outdoor seating area.

Reception staff very helpful. Overall, staff are friendly and helpful, in true Geordie manners. Sadly the restaurant is chaotically managed. My evening meal main was given to another guest by mistake. Food is served to table without any apparent method and slowly - often cooling substantially by the time it gets to you. Rooms are kept clean and pleasant. Apart from restaurant issues, a pleasant hotel with enough high standards to satisfy and good views of the Tyne from your room.
