About Grainger Hotel

Newcastle upon Tyne's Westgate Road puts you within easy reach of the city centre, and it's here that the Grainger Hotel offers a straightforward, no-frills base for a short stay. The 21 rooms are simply furnished, with beds that guests consistently rate as comfortable, though some rooms show signs of wear and the heating isn't always reliable, so it's worth packing an extra layer if visiting out of season.

The hotel has a restaurant and bar on site, along with breakfast, free WiFi and air conditioning, and there's a garden for guests who want a bit of outdoor space. Meeting rooms and wedding facilities are also available, making it a workable option beyond the standard overnight stay. Staff are noted for being friendly and helpful, which goes some way to making up for the tired condition of some rooms.

Free on-site parking is a practical bonus for a central location, sparing guests the usual hunt for street parking in the city. With its position on Westgate Road, the hotel works well as a simple, budget-friendly stopover for exploring Newcastle upon Tyne.

Place smelled rank, holes in the walls, and tiles, room was an oven (despite the rest of the building and outside being cool), windows were wired to only open a few inches, front door and bathroom door had gaps around so anyone in the hall could see into the room, and you could see into the bathroom. The bathroom door was hanging of with no lock, the sink was loose, the bathroom walls had holes punched in the, the shower had mildew, the cold tap was warm. No safety poster, no fire escape or fire details. Tried to complain twice, but reception was closed both times.

In all honesty I would avoid this hotel at all cost the rooms were absolutely shocking with hotels in walls and around electrical outlets which I believe would be enough to get it shut down. The towels were not washed correctly has stains on them and the shower only ran cold water the tv has no power or remove and the room window blind was useless it let in so much light. The mattress was probably the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever slept in During the night another guest accidentally open my door with his card about 2am and walked in the room And the location was close to the city centre with good public transport but the area it’s self was extremely unsafe

This is a lovely little hotel. I must admit it is a bit far from the city center, but it is still within walking distance. If you choose to walk, I would recommend walking into the city center and taking a taxi back, as the hotel is situated on a hill. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

I’m simply impressed by the kettle in my room. When I opened it to boil some water and make tea, I wanted to throw up. It just stinks. I want my money back.
