About Royal Station Hotel

Neville Street sits at the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, with the station's arches close by and the city's shops, bars and riverside a short walk away. The Royal Station Hotel occupies a handsome Victorian building here, blending original architectural detail with the practical comforts guests expect today, and its position makes it especially convenient for anyone arriving by train.

The hotel has 145 rooms, and while some are a little dated in their fittings, they come with air conditioning, free WiFi and in-room drinks. Public spaces include a restaurant and bar, and breakfast draws particular praise for its generous spread of hot and cold options. There's also a gym, spa and sauna, and an indoor swimming pool for guests who want to unwind rather than head straight out into the city.

Staff are consistently described as friendly, helpful and professional, and the hotel is regarded as good value for the location it offers. Free on-site parking is available, which is a useful bonus in a city-centre setting, and with the station on the doorstep, this is a straightforward base for exploring Newcastle or moving on elsewhere.

I have been a guest of this hotel in the past it has a touch of old world grandeur in it's entrance with some modern touches. The dining room/bar is both classy and also relaxed. Special mention to the pool and gym. I am a regular user as it's super good value. It's I believe £22.50 for a month's membership. That's just for the pool or gym however a combined membership for only £25 let's you use everything all day. Of course for hotel guests it's included in the cost of your room. The pool is not full sized or very deep but still big enough to do laps or just gently float around. You don't just get the pool you also get to use a decent sized spa, steam room, sauna and super cold plunge pool. You could spend a lot of time just using this area alone however you could also do a workout in the gym. It's got a reasonable amount of equipment from weights to rowing machine. I will say though that I do wish they would put a second treadmill in as there are plenty of other steppers etc that is the piece of equipment I prefer. I also know that if you want some real indulgence then you can book different packages but I've never bothered to check them out. Last mention is for the staff and the manager Chris. Always a friendly and helpful greeting and good contact to keep people updated on any issue. Also it's good to see them doing regular water tests to make sure the pool/spa etc are safe for use.

If you like a beautiful old building you will love it here. The entrance way feels very grand. The breakfast was average to good. The location is excellent for city centre and the railway and the staff were really good. For me the rooms were very dated and let the hotel down. Decor was poor with broken windows which did not open properly and loose fixtures and fittings as well as a very insecure door lock. For info for the hotel I stayed in room 333. Cleaning could have been better. I did not mention this during my staying as the issues were more long-term than could have been addressed at the time and probably outside the control of the staff. Personally, I would try somewhere else next time.

A beautiful building, with lovely, friendly staff. I had a 3 night weekend stay with a stag group of 17, unfortunately for our group, the hotel is so busy half the group stayed up the road in the holiday inn express. Nice rooms with all hotel room requirements especially fridge, tea and coffee and an iron, plus more. Bathrooms are ok, but need Upgrading. Breakfast is fantastic, good selection. And thank you Josh

This is a really solid hotel - it's very old and historic which shows in some areas feeling dated, but it's elevated by it's amazing location (you can walk out the back straight into the station), and the lovely staff. Everyone I spoke to was friendly, they were friendly with each other and it was a place they were clearly proud to work at. The gym / pool you have to pay a small charge of £5.95 a night, which is very dated, but has a certain charm and again the people who work there are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was good and the staff happily made me vegetarian sausages upon request. Lots of choice. Would stay again
