About The Keelman and Big Lamp Brewery

The Keelman and Big Lamp Brewery is built around its own brewery, and the bar makes the most of it with a solid range of ales alongside the usual drinks selection. Sunday roasts are a particular draw, though the kitchen's output can vary from one visit to the next, so it's worth going in with reasonable expectations rather than sky-high ones. Breakfast is included, and packed lunches and kids' meals are available for those heading out for the day.

Rooms are en-suite and come with drinks facilities, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. The pub itself is dog-friendly, and the garden and outdoor seating give plenty of room to sit outside with a pint, whatever the size of your party. Staff are consistently described as friendly and accommodating, and reception operates around the clock.

Outside, there's a golf course nearby along with other pubs, bars and restaurants for those who fancy a change of scene, plus entertainment options within reach. Free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for exploring Newcastle upon Tyne without worrying about where to leave the car.

Lovely location. Food in the pub was good. So much outside space which is great in the weather. Rooms were ideal, comfy and safe. Would defo book again if in the area.

The Schnitzel was a deep-fried, frozen reformed chicken burger. The homemade Steak And Ale Pie was frozen. The salad was warm, dry and free of dressing. A refund on one of the worst meals was offered but it looked like they needed the money. We were a family group of nine and everyone suggested going somewhere else at some point. Chunky chips were the only honest food on the menu. The beer wasn't chilled due to a fault with the cooling system and the surly, gum-chewing barman was serving it in glasses still hot from the washing machine. Toilets hadn't been cleaned in a while. The air vent in the gent's looked like it hadn't been Hoovered in months. The manager didn't speak or make eye contact, even with what seemed like a group of regulars sat by the bar. He just seemed to be giving the staff instructions and clutching bits of paper. Used to be a great place to spend a lunchtime but I'm told it has recently changed hands. Certainly the crowds havd stopped coming. A couple of the staff were lovely. The others appeared to have stopped caring. M

Stayed here for 1 night and that was more than enough. The rooms are falling to bits and very dated and what isn't broken is missing. We had a missing window handle, so no locking that. Shelf broken and the hoover must have been too looking at the carpet. No fans in the whole hotel well I got lent the only one which was noisy and broken and the man who gave me it found that quite funny when I told him as, he already knew. The place needs a total refurb! As for the breakfast, Don't Bother! Location great tho as, almost on the wall.

I used to come here every Saturday while my daughter does ballet and have a coffee. We decided to come for food on a Sunday and arrived a 3:30 asked for fries but where told kitchen was closed and will open at 4:00. At 4:00 when we tried to order we were told kitchen was close for the day. So basically just lies and terrible customer service. A shame for a pub in a such nice location
