About Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa

The Feversham Arms began life as a coaching inn beside Helmsley's church and has grown into the most comfortable base in this corner of the national park. Rooms are spread between the original stone building and a series of quieter garden wings, and range from classic doubles to suites with private terraces and log burners. The mood is country-house rather than corporate, with open fires, deep sofas and a bar that fills up with walkers and locals in equal measure.

The Verbena Spa is what sets it apart. There is a heated outdoor pool that stays open year-round, a thermal suite, and a full treatment list, all of which make this a sensible choice for a short break where the weather may not cooperate. The restaurant leans on Yorkshire producers and takes non-residents, and afternoon tea in the drawing room is a fixture.

Location is close to ideal for exploring the southern moors. Helmsley Castle, the walled garden and Duncombe Park are within a few minutes' walk, the Cleveland Way starts in the market place, and Rievaulx Abbey is a short drive up the valley. Sutton Bank, Pickering and the steam railway are all comfortably within half an hour, and there is parking on site.

We recently stayed at the Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa, and the place itself was absolutely beautiful. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, and the surroundings make it a wonderful place to relax. Great location a few steps from the main square of the village. Gorgeous food for dinner and breakfast. Room was well-appointed. The outdoor pool area seemed plenty big enough to make the place have an atmosphere but wasn’t too busy. Very attentive and friendly staff who were all happy to help and go the extra mile. I was particularly impressed with the therapist who carried out my treatment, Caroline. She was professional, attentive, and provided an excellent experience. The treatment itself was the highlight of my visit. Check their policy about use of the spa / pool area in relation to check-in and check-out times - they were a little more restrictive than other spa / B&Bs we’ve stayed in before. Strangely for a place of this kind, there isn’t a gym. Parking was included in the price but I sense you’d need to be early to get a space. There is street parking in close proximity. Overall, the hotel is stunning and has a lot to offer and the staff are great but a couple of absences make it 4 star not 5.

Wonderful stay here. Room was amazing. Grateful for air con. The outdoor heated pool was a real treat. Food in the restaurant was exceptional...I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian options. Will definitely be back for a visit.

Stayed with my husband for one night following our wedding. Arrived a couple of hours early at the hotel and parked in the underground car park which had quite a few spaces for guests. Anyway went to tell them at reception that we were early but wanted to leave our car in the car park whilst we had a walk around Helmsley - this was no problem at all and the lady told us our room would be ready an hour early anyway- bonus! Helmsley itself is a lovely little town with many great shops and cafes and they day we visited there was a local market. The room was a spa room with balcony and had a lovely view of the whole spa especially on the evening when it was all lit up. All of the little extra touches were lovely, 'congratulations' chocolates, well stocked tea, coffee hot choc station and mini temple spa toiletries. 24 hour room service. Room was spotlessly clean. However 2 minor faults we noted were the balcony door did not lock and the shower flooded when in use as the drain could not seem to get rid of the flow of water from the power shower quick enough. Spent a good few hours in the spa and had treatments each. The spa was beautifully clean, although towards the end of the day it seems to run out/ go very low on towels. The ladies who did our treatment were amazing and really put us as ease and it was a thoroughly relaxing experience. The restaurant food was amazing and there were many things on the menu we hadnt tried before. Food cooked to perfection and so flavourful, and also filling. Breakfast was also lovely, although it was quite a small portion (enough for me but my partner would of liked a little more- one sausage, one egg, half a mushroom, small pot of beans and one slice of bacon and black pudding). There is also a smaller buffet selection with dried fruits, croissants and a couple of cereals). The servers in the restaurant on a morning and night were all lovely and polite but we did have to chase them up a few times when we had ordered a drink, or toast etc. Overalls it was a lovely stay and I would reccomend.

Arrived slightly early and reception kindly let us use the spa facilities before we took our room. Pool outside was warm but a little tired looking. The jacuzzi was great but slightly gritty underfoot. Inside the spa was a relaxing and calm atmosphere. Having left the spa we were taken to our room which we found out that we had been upgraded. Wow! Our double room was now a poolside suite with balcony. Perfect! The staff at the FA make the place. Polite, friendly and smiling. We ate both evenings in the hotel and although a limited menu, we'd already looked online. Would reccomend the scallops, monkfish and the risotto. Thankyou for a wonderful stay and for once the Weather God's were on our side. X
