The Black Swan Helmsley

We paid full price on the 21st of February this year. The room okay, I wouldn’t complain about that. It was the ‘night food service Which was diabolical, we booked in for 8:15. We paid full price no special offer my other half had pie and chips. The pie must’ve been standing there three days and it was warmed up. I had salmon with some kind of beans, no vegetables no chips I asked for some and they said it wasn’t available. We didn’t get the plates off the table till 9.45 the waitress who was taking the dishes away said,if you want to desert you better hurry up because the Chef was leaving the desert was Okay, just warmed up from a few days ago. We never have food in there ever again. Service was terrible. We complained on the morning Ian on Front of desk took some notes down and apologised as there was no staff the previous night and would take notes. We never got no compensation only sorry never go there again. Breakfast was okay food was nice, but everything you had to get yourself tea milk cereal.

This deceptively large chain hotel is located in the centre of Helmsley. It’s good for an overnight stop but I wouldn’t choose it as a destination or hotel for a romantic get away. I sense the business model is about throughput of guests rather than quality of service and product. Would I go back? Only as a stop off. Positives: - It’s dog friendly. - It’s located in Helmsley square so very convenient. - The inn and communal rooms are historic and welcoming. The bar staff and waiters/waitresses were also very friendly. - Good wifi. Negatives: - Double bed was two singles pushed together. - Very limited parking (first come first served). - Food was below average in presentation and quality, compared to other places we have been. - Italian receptionist was quite rude, which didn’t make a good first impression.

A nice hotel in a good location run by professional and competent staff. The rooms are of a decent size with a very comfortable king size bed. The shower and toilet are clean with good towels. Overall the hotel is clean and comfortable with a good atmosphere and the staff are approachable and pleasant. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast, the buffet area was fine with cereals and pastries etc but the full English was measley, not enough of the "good stuff" and I would rather pay a few bob more for a better breakfast.

A very nice hotel with 2 great bars and seating areas in the restaurant. There's also seating outside in the garden through the bar located at the back of the hotel. We had breakfast which had a selection of most things. The hotel also has several entrances so we didn't need to be walking all the way around just to get to our room. The room we had was a superior double which was a quite large and clean. The hotel decor was suited to the time period and we would definitely stay here again.
