Gowland Farm- May Cottage
North Yorkshire
View on Google MapsPhoto: Google Maps
Whitby and Scarborough are both within reach, and the North Yorkshire coast itself just two miles away. May Cottage sits on a working farm that has been converted into holiday accommodation, with an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and games room shared among the properties on-site. The setting is rural enough to attract deer from the surrounding woodland, yet close to the attractions of the Yorkshire seaside.
The cottage is a converted stone barn with a single bedroom containing two single beds, suitable for friends or family travelling together. Everything is on the ground floor: a living room with an electric stove, a dining table for two, a kitchen with a gas hob and electric oven, and a shower room. The essentials are covered—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are all included, along with parking for two cars and a private garden. The shared games room has a pool table and table tennis; a washing machine and tumble dryer are available in an external utility room. No smoking is permitted.
Dogs are welcome at no extra cost. The heated pool is kept at 28°C and shared with other properties on-site, as are the sauna and changing facilities. Check-in is after 15:00 and checkout before 10:00.

My wife and I and our little cockerpoo stayed in Swallows Folly for 4 nights. We were very comfortable and wanting for nothing, as everything was supplied. The cottage had parking just a few metres away. The cottage layout is set in an upside down format, with kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom on the lower floor, and the lounge area upstairs. We had a lovely stay, albeit carrying a couple of cups of hot tea upstairs from the kitchen to the upstairs lounge, did get a little tedious. We both get a little tired when going up and down the stairs so much. But apart from that it's a very quiet place to stay, with a comfortable three piece suite in the lounge area. There are trays supplied to have a meal on while watching TV. The shower has a good amount of pressure and is very invigorating, but we had to be careful it didn't overflow the shower tray. So we had to reduce the flow somewhat. The bed is a double and is relatively comfortable. We both slept very well. We did find it a little too close to one wall, making it difficult to manoeuvre around and into bed. The room size is what it is, but still operational for its purpose. Gowland farm cottage's are down a quiet lane, so being disturbed by passing traffic is not an issue. The sky's in this area is darker than many area's, and there is lot's of birds and wildlife, with open fields all around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we would maybe stay at one of the other cottages for a change, because we found the position of the cottages a great base for visiting the coastal towns or the North Yorkshire villages or moorland. A truly beautiful area to discover many places.

Just had a brilliant time staying in May Cottage. We found it to be an ideal location to visit Whitby ,Robin Hood bay and Scarborough but also was close to Bempton Cliffs RSPB. We went to find Puffins at Bempton and were not disappointed. Gowland farm is surrounded by beautiful countryside with stunning views and it was lovely to sit outside the cottage admiring the views with a cold beer or a glass of wine. We could not recommend the place more highly. There was a pool and games room but we were to busy to get to use them. We just enjoyed the piece and quite enjoying the views. Trevor and Jane were very helpful advising on places to visit and checking we were enjoying our stay. The only downside was we had to come home.

Such an idyllic get away. This is truly an ideal place to take things easy in Yorkshire while also being within easy reach of busier locations such as Scarborough, Pickering (market day Monday) and Whitby. Absolutely love staying here. Always a friendly welcome from Trevor and Jane.
