Jet Workers Cottage
North Yorkshire
Whitby's narrow streets and harbour views wrap around this stone cottage, which stands in a quiet yard just yards from the main thoroughfare. The town centre brings independent shops, antique dealers and pubs within immediate reach, while the seafront and three miles of sandy beach are a short walk away. This particular yard once housed jet workshops—the semi-precious stone that made Whitby's fortune in the Victorian era—and later the studio of the celebrated photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe.
The cottage spreads across three floors. Downstairs is an open-plan living area with kitchen, dining space and a sofa facing a smart TV; upstairs, a bedroom with a king bed and its own TV; on the top floor, two single beds tucked under the eaves (suitable for adults and older children). One bathroom serves all three levels. Essentials are covered: heating, electricity, linen, towels and wi-fi included. Parking is on-road about ten minutes away, with one permit provided. The cottage does not permit smoking, and is not suitable for children under three.
This is a working base for exploring Whitby's fishing heritage, its museums and galleries, and the Yorkshire coast beyond. The pubs, seafood restaurants and chip shops that line the harbour front are a few minutes on foot.
