Platelayers Cottages - Hudson Cottage
North Yorkshire
Hudson Cottage is one of two semi-detached cottages built in the 19th century shortly after the moorland railway opened. Named after the platelayers who originally lived here—the workers who laid the track itself—the property still sits beside the heritage steam railway that connects moorland villages to the Yorkshire coast, with trains passing regularly en route to Whitby.
The ground floor holds a living room warmed by a woodburner, a combined kitchen and dining space with a full set of appliances, and a family bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a king bed and en-suite shower, the other with two singles. The cottage has genuine character throughout, with beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. Parking for two cars is on site, and an enclosed rear garden with patio and furniture provides outdoor space. Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included, as is the initial fuel for the burner. A tumble dryer sits in an external utility room shared with the neighbouring cottage.
The setting suits anyone wanting to explore the North York Moors on foot or by bike—cycle racks are provided—with Levisham village about a mile away. The coast is half an hour's drive. No smoking inside the property.
