A converted stone barn, The Byres retains traditional character while offering the space and comfort of a modern holiday home. Built from local materials, the property sits on a working farm near Selside, surrounded by the rolling landscape of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Inside, exposed beams and period features sit alongside generous rooms designed for genuine relaxation rather than cramped self-catering compromise.

Three bedrooms sleep four guests: a kingsize, a double, and two singles on the upper floor. The ground floor holds a living room with woodburning stove, separate dining room, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric hob, full-size fridge and freezer, microwave and washing machine mean you can prepare meals as elaborate or simple as you choose. A bathroom with bath and shower cubicle, plus a utility room with tumble dryer, complete the layout. Wifi, heating, electricity and bed linen are all included, as is fuel for the fire. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge.

The garden has a sitting-out area with furniture and a barbecue for summer evenings. Private parking fits two cars. The location suits walkers and cyclists using the Dales network, though the garden includes six steps and there are two steps to the entrance. Smoking is not permitted indoors.

A really beautiful setting and fabulous food that makes you say "wow". Quite different from your normal "fine dining" experience; much more intimate, only 3 members of staff, and so so relaxed. The setting and atmosphere is super chilled and relaxing. Exceptional cooking and a very very enjoyable evening.

Stunning location with superb food. Byre has created a lovely relaxing atmosphere whilst watching some of the food being cooked in front of you.

We had a fantastic dinner at Byre a few weeks ago. The menu is beautifully put together with delicious wine pairings. I often find taster menus over rich but I left feeling that I had enjoyed an excellent meal without being over faced. I loved the more relaxed approach, with Elizabeth delivering most of the dishes herself dressed in civvies rather than chef’s whites. She glides around serenely during the meal putting this and that in the ESSE wood fired ovens. They have struck just the right balance between letting us know what we are eating and too much info which is sadly not the case in many restaurants. A really delicious treat. I found it hard not to lick out my pudding bowl! We will definitely be back.

Wonderful new venture from Liz Cottam tucked away in beautiful countryside near Bolton Abbey. Very intimate dining experience with each dish being served to all tables at the same time and explained by Liz. The menu is incredibly seasonal with much of the produce coming from either the restaurants own garden, or foraged from the local countryside. Every dish was very thoughtfully put together and executed to the highest standards. The drink pairings are excellent and great value. It's a very immersive experience where you really feel part of the day, rather than just being another customer and Liz and her small team deserve immense credit for their incredibly warm and yet professional service which contribute to this. Overall a wonderful experience and I've already booked to go back.
