North Yorkshire

Whitby's cobbled streets and gothic architecture sit within reach of working harbours, sandy beaches open year-round to dogs, and the Cleveland Way stretching along the Yorkshire coast. Valentines On Love Lane occupies a quiet corner of this fishing town on Love Lane, a semi-detached house with direct access to an enclosed garden where children can play and dogs can run.
The layout spreads across two floors: downstairs holds a living room with television and DVD player, a kitchen and dining space with electric cooker and dishwasher, and a conservatory opening onto the garden and decking. Three bedrooms sleep six—two doubles and a twin—plus one bathroom with a bath and shower. Bed linen, towels, heating and wi-fi come as standard. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering, with a microwave, fridge and freezer alongside the main appliances. Three parking spaces sit on the property itself, removing the usual hunt for street parking.
Families and couples will find travel cots, a highchair and a stairgate already in place. Dogs stay free and the owners provide extras for them; a dog crate is available on request. The house accepts one pet. Smoking is not permitted inside.

We had a lovely time at Valentines. It had a secure garden for the dogs. It was well-equipped for our stay. It is located close to the beach. Will definitely book again. Thanks to Glenn for the goodies and for letting us stay.

Valentines is a fabulous house, especially for us with our two dogs. It has a secure, enclosed garden, is five minutes from a great dog friendly pub (good food too) and just a couple of minutes further brings you to the fantastic beach (turn left in high season for unrestricted access for dogs). The house is very well equipped (It’s a bug bear of mine that holiday lets often don’t have any cleaning materials and I like to clean surfaces down properly. This one had lots.) and has plenty of storage space, cupboards and wardrobes. The other really significant factor for us was the off road parking. Parking can be a nightmare in Whitby. Certainly a big enough space for two cars although our Landrover Freelander took up quite a lot of the space. There are two small supermarkets within a five minute walk. We stayed for 6 nights and only took the car out once as everything was so convenient. It took us a very pleasant half an hour to walk along the beach to Whitby centre. We had a small issue with the TV (user-error!) and the owner, Glenn, came out twice to sort us out. He is really helpful and kind. We were very lucky to have glorious weather in March after the wettest February on record. The conservatory, with it’s underfloor heating, was very pleasant. All in all a great find. We WILL be back. ❤️

We stayed at Valentines on Love Lane in Whitby last week and were very disappointed. The house was very dirty and smelt strongly of dogs, not pleasant. We spent the first few hours of our holiday cleaning the place. Reported to the owner but he did not respond. Not good! The filth we found in the kitchen and living room had built up over a period of time. I wrote a message in the dirt on shelves in the kitchen and the water was still green after cleaning the kitchen floor for the 4th time! The living room sofas had not been moved for months as there was a disgusting build up of dog hair and filth which I had to clean as my husband suffers from asthma and was struggling to breathe. We received 2 bath towels (no hand towels) and I had to request fresh towels and when they were brought round they smelled very strongly of food. Our dogs have their own beds upon which they slept so any dog hairs upstairs would have been there from previous guests when the house had not been properly cleaned. Other dogs had obviously been upstairs as there was dried dog pee up the bedroom door. At £700 for the week we should have been able to expect a clean house as a minimum.

Just had a lovely week again in Whitby from the 12 October to the 19th. Visiting Sandsend, Scarborough, Runswick Bay and Staithes and of course plenty of trips into Whitby down the beach with our three dogs. Weather couldn't have been better meeting lots of friendly people. The only down side was the house we rented on Love Lane called Valentines that was disgustingly dirty and spent most of first day cleaning the place. We all love Whitby and will be back again next October but not at Valentines.
