Traditional inn on Station Road, Northampton, known for its Sunday roasts and hearty breakfasts alongside clean, comfortable rooms.
About The Walnut Tree Inn
The Walnut Tree Inn has built its reputation on the plate as much as the pillow, with a restaurant known for generous Sunday roasts and a breakfast that sets guests up properly for the day. There's a bar for an evening pint, outdoor seating for warmer days, and kids meals and packed lunches on offer, making it a practical stop whether you're passing through or staying a while.
Rooms are en-suite and come in family sizes too, with drinks available in-room and a reputation for being kept clean and spacious. Worth noting, some rooms can pick up noise from passing trains given the Station Road setting, so light sleepers may want to bear that in mind. Staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, and the pricing is considered fair for what's included.
Beyond the rooms and restaurant, the inn has a garden, meeting rooms for those combining business with the stay, and free on-site parking. It's well placed for events, with a golf course, pubs, bars, restaurants and entertainment all nearby in Northampton, and 24 hour reception means arrival times are never a problem.

What guests say
I would highly recommend the Walnut Tree. We had our mother's wake yesterday. It was the first and only place we saw and it was the perfect place. I mum would have loved it there. We had a few rooms booked for family members. Knowing this they were very accommodating allowing slightly earlier check in to get ready and slightly later check out. Thank you Millie for being our first point of contact and Fraser with helping to set up the music and projector which was a wonderful touch thank you. The rooms were lovely and spacious and had everything you needed. It was very clean so big thumbs up. Breakfast was lovely too. The food for the wake was excellent very tasty. Special hug to Debbie we love you for constantly keeping everyone's glass full so we could celebrate our mum's life. So yes I would definitely recommend the The Walnut Tree thank you.

Came here for dinner with my mates. They really looked after us. I can highly recommend. While this is located somewhat far from much else, it was great to come here off the canal. We were able to moor close by. The food was fantastic, you won't go wrong no matter what you order. Our favourites were the mozzarella, white bate, duck balls, beef meatballs and pork belly(special). The staff were helpful and friendly. Worth a detour

Me and my partner stayed for a night prior to my nans funeral, we had hired out a function room for my nans Wake. I wanted to show a video and slideshow so Fraser the GM helped me set it up. I had explained that I was staying the night before and needed to get ready for my nans funeral. Check out was at 11. Fraser accommodated me so I could get ready and store my stuff peacefully. So thank you for that, it meant alot. The barstaff lady was patient and polite although, I know how intense can be. Lady at breakfast was polite considering it was 7.30am of the morning of our mum/nans funeral, so she was polite too. I enjoyed the breakfast and coffees, so breakfast was nice. The location was good, rooms were a smidge hot but that's what you get for an old building, yes the trains were a little inconvenient starting at 5.30 but the hotel cannot prevent that. They could do with blackout blinds, alternatively bring a sleep mask. Thank you for hosting what turned out to be a beautiful day. Thanks Kerry.

Popped into the Walnut tree with the wife for a pint and a bite to eat. An interesting building with lots of history. We were met at reception by Fraser, the manager, who was very welcoming and had a big smile. He directed us to the bar and explained they had 2 wakes booked in that afternoon. We ordered food and drinks, which was reasonably priced and came very quickly, despite them being very busy. Food was great! Had a nose around whilst we waited, they have several large rooms for private functions, with their own bars and accommodation. Would definitely recommend and we will revisit.
