Dorothy Forster Court

Northumberland

View on Google Maps

Dorothy Forster Court occupies two floors of a Grade II listed building thought to be among Alnwick's oldest. You enter via a private doorway on Narrowgate, ascending eleven steps to reach the main living space. The first floor opens into a bright, interconnected living and dining area with a kitchen equipped for full self-catering—electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and all the basics. Bedroom 1 has a single bed and a pull-out single; the bathroom has a bath with shower over it. From here, a further flight leads to the second floor, where Bedroom 2's kingsize bed sits beneath original solid beams, with views towards the castle. An ensuite shower room serves this bedroom.

The property is steps from Alnwick Castle, with a shared courtyard and parking permit for one car included. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are covered. A pub lies within a mile. This is a no-smoking property. The building itself carries the name of Dorothy Forster, an 18th-century local figure whose audacious actions during the Jacobite Rebellion—involving a coffin filled with sawdust and a midnight escape—became part of regional folklore.
