Mews Cottage

This stone cottage dates from when Alnwick's mews served the big houses nearby. It's a compact, solid building with character – the kind of place where you notice the old walls and sash windows. The whole property is yours alone, with a double bedroom upstairs and a sofa bed in the living area below if you need the extra space. One bathroom with shower upstairs, and the essentials like heating, electricity, linen and towels are sorted.

The ground floor is open plan: kitchen with electric oven and gas hob, a dining area, and a sitting room with a TV. There's a utility room with washer and dryer. Upstairs, the bedroom is straightforward – a 4ft 6in double bed and an ensuite. Outside, a private enclosed garden with sitting-out space and furniture gives you somewhere to sit with a drink or let a dog run about (pets stay free). There is a step down into the garden. Parking is on the road.

Alnwick town centre is close enough to walk to for pubs, cafes and fish and chips. Northumberland's coast is nearby – Warkworth, Amble, Beadnell and Seahouses are all reachable for a drive out. No smoking inside.
