About Premier Inn Alnwick
Premier Inn Alnwick is a purpose-built, low-rise hotel with 80 rooms, set up on the Willowburn Trading Estate rather than in a historic building, but positioned within easy walking distance of Alnwick Castle, The Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei. It also gives quick access onto the A1 for exploring the rest of Northumberland.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, drinks facilities and the option of family or accessible layouts, and there's a lift serving the building. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar covering breakfast and evening meals, with feedback consistently pointing to clean, comfortable rooms and food that satisfies, though service at busier times can be a little slow. Free on-site parking is available at the front of the hotel, provided vehicles are registered with reception.
Staff are noted for being friendly and helpful, and the location itself is a quiet one despite the trading estate surroundings. Beyond the castle and garden, the area offers golf, fishing, cycling and walking routes, plus nearby pubs and restaurants for evenings out. There's also an electric vehicle charge point on site for those touring further afield.
What guests say
We booked here for the Sunday night if the Bank Holiday weekend. We were cycling from Berwick to Gateshead. We were welcomed by Karen who was an absolute star! She went over and above to try and accommodate our bikes in the room. Sadly it wasn't to be as they wouldn't fit in the lift as we had booked a Premier Room. However Karen tried her best to help. Room was lovely. Very clean and very quiet. Karen even stepped in to help get us a taxi as the local firm wasn't answering. Breakfast was plentiful (despite it being half term). All the staff were excellent and lovely with all customers. They worked like a well oiled machine. They also worked very hard. 5* for service!

I chose the Premier Inn over other places in Alnwick as with a Premier Inn you basically know what you're getting. Alnwick has a lot of guesthouses etc but the quality can vary. This Premier Inn was OK but not great. The check in with a machine seemed unnecessarily complicated - particularly as a member of staff was right there (though insisting on me using the machine). One of the staff was quite abrupt and gave the impression I should have magically known various things about the hotel. Another was much nicer. The food wasn't as nice or as good value as at other Premier Inns I've stayed at. The room was clean but the bath drain was not. It also didn't say anywhere that none of the windows open. Lastly, there didn't seem to be enough staff and they didn't look particularly professional. One member of staff at breakfast had on jogging bottoms with visible stains. I completely understand the need for comfort but there's comfortable and then there's scruffy.

The usual standard you would expect from a Premier Inn. We have stayed at many other sites but this was our first time at this one. Tried to use the check-in terminal, got so far with it then it crashed. A very helpful staff member called Karen appeared and checked us in very cheerfully. Exactly the sort of of hospitality I would expect in the Northeast. We had planned to go to a local restaurant whose name I will not mention, but Karen said it was not as good as it used to be. She did recommend a curry house called Sherkhan so we went there and had an excellent meal and a very pleasant evening. Alnwick Castle is well worth a visit and the town is historic and attractive.

NOISY ROOMS AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Rooms and corridors very noisy. Could hear other guests through the walls, outside in the corridors and walking around in the room above throughout the stay which kept us up. Spoke to reception who were unable to move us and handed us a card referring us to customer service to claim under Premier Inn's 'Good Night Guarantee' - of course they refused any level of refund despite the hotel reception staff making us aware of the policy in the first place and accused us of lying about the complaint we made. The hotel is also located in a dodgy industrial estate with people rough sleeping and is a very long and unpleasant walk away from Alnwick. I would pay slightly more for a hotel actually in Alnwick that will treat their customers nicely.
