The Physicians House dates from the Georgian era, when it was part of the Duke of Northumberland's holdings before passing to Robert Wilson, a physician and surgeon whose work shaped industrial change across northern England. Today the house retains its period character while offering modern comfort, positioned on a quiet street in Alnwick's centre, a short walk from the castle and famous gardens.
Five bedrooms across three floors accommodate up to 10 guests. Ground and lower ground floors hold a bar, sitting room, dining space and kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and all the basics. Three bathrooms include a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. Upstairs, a cinema room with Xbox provides entertainment, while bedrooms range from super-king to bunk beds. Essentials like bed linen, towels, heating and wi-fi are included; a welcome pack and bike storage are provided. The rear garden has seating, and free parking is available 110 yards away.
This is a whole property rental suited to large family groups or friends gathering for a holiday. Alnwick's restaurants, bars and shops are on your doorstep, the Playhouse theatre is nearby, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens are a two-minute walk. No smoking indoors.

We had an absolutely wonderful week staying at the physician's house. The location is perfect - we could walk to Alnwick Gardens (and Lilidorei), Barter Books, Alnwick Playhouse, Alnwick Castle and the many lovely cafes and restaurants in Alnwick. And the house itself is beautiful! It's huge, the beds are very comfy, the kitchen is well equipped, everyone loved the cinema room and the bar. Parking in the nearby pub was convenient.

Lovely House in a fantastic location - We've just had a fantastic week at The Physicians house. We were a party of 6 adults in 3 couples, and would have been happy if more were there, there is loads of space/room. The house is kept lovely and clean, with comfortable beds, bedding, pillows and towels. We loved the cinema room for watching a movie, and spent more time than we thought in the dining room, chatting and watching the world go by or playing games in the snug. We loved being able to walk into town or Barter Books. We only moved the cars when we travelled further afield to visit Banburgh Castle, Holy Island, Morpeth or the coast. There is a lot to see and do. Alison the host has been amazing, very quick to answer any questions, before and during our stay, but otherwise just left us to enjoy the holiday.

We stayed at the Physicians House for a weekend in January. The house is lovely, extremely spacious, perfect for larger groups. The basement bar and cinema room are also a lovely touch! The house is in a perfect location as it is central in Alnwick so walking distance to pubs/ restaurants. Just a short drive away from some lovely beaches. We would 100% stay again.
