We recently stayed in the Fern Lodge at BrackenXcapes with my husband, two friends, and both of our dogs, and it was absolutely perfect. We were looking for somewhere roughly halfway between London and Newcastle to meet up for a relaxing weekend together, and BrackenXcapes couldn’t have been a better choice. The location is ideal – it’s very close to the A1, which meant we didn’t have to spend ages driving down country roads after a long motorway journey. The lodge itself was fantastic. The kitchen and dining area were a great size for cooking and eating together, while the sitting room was incredibly comfortable and the perfect place to unwind after a day out. One of the biggest highlights for us was the garden, which was completely secure. It meant we could genuinely relax, knowing the dogs could roam and play freely without us constantly keeping an eye on them. The hot tub was an added bonus too and made the weekend feel even more special – the perfect place to relax after a long walk or an afternoon exploring the local area. What really stood out were all the thoughtful little touches that showed the owners had genuinely considered how to make the lodge feel like a home from home. There were plastic Prosecco glasses for enjoying a glass of fizz in the hot tub, a BBQ, cosy slippers and blankets, dog waste bins, tea and coffee provided, and even fresh eggs from their own chickens. It’s these small details that make a stay feel extra welcoming and comfortable. Nigel was also fantastic throughout. In the lead-up to our stay, he was incredibly responsive whenever we had questions, and once we arrived he was happy to suggest places to visit and things to do in the area. His friendly and helpful approach really added to the experience. The whole weekend was exactly what we wanted: a chance to switch off, catch up with friends, and enjoy some quality time together in a peaceful setting. There are also plenty of things to do nearby. There’s a lovely town within easy reach with a beautiful riverside pub, and for those who fancy stretching their legs, there’s even a brewery within walking distance via a great dog walk. BrackenXcapes also offers activities such as archery and axe throwing, which looked like great fun if you’re feeling more adventurous. The site has a variety of glamping and accommodation options too, making it ideal for larger groups or anyone wanting a more outdoorsy experience. For us, though, Fern Lodge was exactly what we were looking for. A wonderful, dog-friendly stay in a great location, with excellent facilities, thoughtful touches throughout, a secure garden, and the added luxury of a hot tub. We left feeling completely relaxed and will definitely be returning in the future. Highly recommended.

Warm, cozy, dry and comfortable. At the end of the frontier 300, I wanted convenience. The tipi was all set up with a doona, extra blankets, pillows, lamp, some haribo for emergencies, proper raised mattress and carpets. Had a super sleep. Only recommendation is to pack an eye mask - when the sun rises early, the tipi seems to amplify the light (which is welcome!).

Beautiful location with a very cosy cottage where you feel at home! I stayed with my partner during Valentines weekend and the setting was perfect. The host is very friendly and helpful with easy communication. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would most definately stay here again!

Stayed in one of Nigel’s tipis after the Frontier300 bike race. Nigel was ready waiting to greet me and show me to my tipi which was a welcome haven of luxury after a gruelling day. Comfy bed, warm duvet and blankets and all lit by fairy lights made a special end to the night. Thanks for looking after me Nigel 😊
