About Portavadie Loch Fyne

Tucked on Argyll's 'Secret Coast', Portavadie Loch Fyne is a sleek spa resort with a fascinating past – the land was once earmarked for oil rig construction but now hosts a polished getaway overlooking the loch. Reviewers rave about the food (crispy haggis bon bons, top-notch burgers) and the spa facilities, including outdoor hot tubs and a heated infinity pool with sweeping water views. Spotless lodges and cabins come well-equipped, while the pitch offerings include electric hardstanding and grass for motorhomes.

Days here blend aquatic relaxation with activity – dip between indoor and outdoor pools, hire bikes for forest trails, or fish directly on the loch. Wildlife watchers have glimpsed buzzards, otters, golden eagles and even basking sharks. The fitness centre, marina and on-site restaurants mean you needn't venture far, though Ostel Bay's sandy beach is 15 minutes by car and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park sits 40 minutes away. Staff earn consistent praise for their professionalism, cementing this as a standout highland retreat for families, couples and sailors alike.

Maybe my expectations were wrong as I expected the sort of spa resort/ hotel I’ve stayed in before. This is more like a marina with accommodation, a restaurant and a pool tacked on. The food in the restaurant was delicious, if slightly expensive. Although it is lacking in atmosphere and odd that there is no bar?!?! Felt like we were expected to leave the premises after our meal was finished. Restaurant staff were very nice though. It was really disappointing to find only a horrid generic body wash/ shampoo in the bathroom. The shower was awful- no pressure- and the floor was slightly grubby. Nice big room though. The pool has communal changing rooms which were full of noisy kids when we arrived- I felt like I was at the local council pool rather than a place charging quite high end prices. Same horrid generic shampoo stuff in the very basic showers here. The outdoor pool and hot tubs were fantastic- the best bit of the whole place. Not allowed to take photos which may displease some people and I believe they are closed in winter. You also have to pay extra to access the Spa area which has a steam room, relaxation facilities etc- we didn’t bother as we’d already paid enough. Overall, I’d say unless you are visiting on your boat or keeping your boat at the marina, go to one if the other fine spa resorts in Scotland

Truly beautiful place soiled by truly terrible management. I reluctantly went to the spa and restaurant after the resort told me that they are incapable of managing a booking calendar and just list the resort as always available, rejecting cancellations if they’re booked. I advise booking accommodation elsewhere and only using facilities at the resort. You can drive in and access everything if you aren’t staying there. All the staff other than the customer experience manager, who called me to be completely rude and justify rejecting my booking by essentially suggesting the resort is so popular they couldn’t possibly manage reservations. Didn’t even offer a voucher or anything. He was completely rude and I called with genuine and fair feedback. My advice to the owners, find a customer experience staff member who cares even a tiny bit about customer experience and this resort has potential. Overall the interior design is quite clinical. It feels a bit more like hospital than a resort. Especially the restaurant which charges more than a fine dining restaurant in London for average food.

Super base to explore the area, we really enjoyed our 3 night break. Although the outdoor pool is still closed, the indoor one is excellent. Unfortunately we cannot give a 5 due to the shower being over the bath. Would love to meet the planner who can explain why what could be a beautiful walk-in shower has to be converted to remind me of my student squat!

A really beautiful spot, all areas are finished to a really high standard and staff are lovely. We stayed in a cabin which felt pretty much brand new. It was so cosy, clean and well equipped - they have fresh milk, fresh ground coffee and biscuits waiting for you when you arrive. Ours didn’t have any plates or cutlery though so would bring your own in future (unsure if that was an error in ours or not). The pool is amazing, especially in the evening, and the gym is well equipped. Absolutely loved it and would definitely come back in a heartbeat.
