A 50-room hotel on Oban's Esplanade, well suited to travellers who want sea-view rooms and an easy base for exploring Argyll and Bute.

About Columba Hotel

Travellers after a straightforward seafront base in Oban will find the Columba Hotel a practical choice. Set on the Esplanade with 50 rooms, it's the kind of place that suits a coastal touring trip or a stopover before heading further into Argyll and Bute, with Creach Bheinn among the local points of interest and Oban itself close by.

Many of the rooms take in wide views over the water, and guests generally find them a comfortable size, though some visitors have noted that maintenance can be inconsistent, so it's worth bearing in mind rather than expecting uniform polish throughout. Breakfast is a regular highlight, served alongside the hotel's restaurant and bar, and staff are usually described as friendly and helpful, even if a few guests have found service occasionally lacking in professionalism.

Facilities extend to free WiFi, a lift, and luggage storage, useful for anyone breaking up a longer journey along the coast. Free on-site parking makes it easy to arrive by car and explore the surrounding area at leisure, with Oban's harbour and town centre within easy reach.

Height of bath very high to step into, however there is a handle for support which is good. No bath mat which meant bath was slippy for showering, however we spoke with staff who said that would be addressed, they were very apologetic. Breakfast was good, good selection, rooms comfortable and clean. Very approachable staff, who were friendly and cheery.

Spent a few days here with my mum and gran. Had the best time the staff are so friendly and go out their way for you. Rooms are immaculate. We didn't try breakfast but did have lunch and cocktails in bar Rio. Amazing service. Will definitely book up again. The hotel is walking distance from train station and pub across the road Oban in. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Stayed here as passing through en route from Elgin/Fort William to Edinburgh. Room 206 was spacious but bathroom was a smaller than shoe closet. Nothing worked - tv defaulted to only pay per view - hotel could not get the tv to work as it should, towel rack didn't heat (despite huge sticker "Caution Extremely Hot"), heater in room didn't work, shower pressure was equivalent to a rain drizzle. Floor boards creaked in 206 every time neighbour in 204 moved about in their room. Convenient location but hotel is a mess. Pass.

I had a very disappointing experience at the Columba Hotel. While staying there, a friend and I visited their Bar Rio. Despite arriving well before closing, the waitress was extremely rude and began loudly and forcefully slamming chairs onto tables to encourage us to leave early. The situation worsened when I returned to my room to shower. The phone began ringing incessantly. I finally answered after 15 minutes of non-stop ringing, only to be told I hadn't paid for the food. Note that I had a walking disability and the hotel has no lift. I had assumed the bill would be added to my room tab. I offered to pay via bank transfer or cash if someone could come to the room, but they refused both. They insisted I 'limp' down two floors to pay in person. Completely unprofessional - stay away!
