About Knipoch House Hotel

Knipoch House Hotel occupies a whitewashed country house on the shores of Loch Feochan, around six miles south of Oban, with grounds running down towards the water and the hills of Argyll rising behind. The building has been carefully restored to keep its stone walls, open fires and wood-panelled rooms while adding modern comforts throughout its 26 bedrooms.

Many rooms overlook the loch, and the hotel's outdoor hot tub takes in the same view over the water. Since joining the Sonas Collection, the hotel has launched its 1635 restaurant, offering a seven-course tasting menu built around Argyll produce and local seafood, alongside a more relaxed bar and lounge.

The rural setting suits guests who want a quieter, more spacious base than the town centre, with Oban itself a short drive away for the harbour, ferry terminal and distillery. Loch Feochan and the surrounding hills offer walking straight from the door.

This was a lovely and unique experience. The hotel is just a few miles outside Oban but we felt like we were far away, in the beautiful Scottish countryside. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly, the room was quiet and comfortable. We ate at both restaurants and had superior meals every time. They had live music from a local trio one evening in the lounge and they were absolutely delightful! We highly recommend this lovely place!

Recently my husband and I stayed at Knipoch House Hotel. We were traveling in the UK from New Zealand. This hotel really stood out from others we had been to. When we arrived reception staff were very attentive and professional. The hotel was situated in beautiful tranquil countryside. The atmosphere of the hotel was calm and relaxed. There was a high standard of cleanliness and attention to detail. Breakfasts were delicious with very generous portions. We found the staff excellent. They were very welcoming, friendly and informative. Highly recommend.

The staff are very pleasant, if not always efficient (requests for extra pillows never came through without being chased)…but definitely pleasant. The rooms are quite old fashioned, with no safe, no fridge…and the ‘sea view’ is actually a view of the car park, then an A road and then the sea - if someone parks outside your window, you can breaks see the sea. It’s about 20 mins and a £20 cab ride outside Oban. The main issue is its old, and therefore noisy - we were on the ground floor and could hear every step upstairs took as the floorboards creaked (and they got up at 6AM both days!). Overall it’s nice, but not ideal for us.

We’re doing a short road trip around Scotland for my birthday. We had absolutely no plan, but I randomly found and booked the hotel the day before my birthday simply because it seemed like a better deal than any of the older hotels along the promenade in Oban city centre. Best decision ever. The hotel was so lovely, clean, and comfortable. I didn’t mention it was my birthday, as I’m not a big celebrator, but it happened to be a Friday night and they had a group called Torsa playing traditional Scottish tunes every Friday night. I had a good evening. It was all perfect.
