The Royal Hotel

Great hotel! Had a great stay there. The rooms are big and confortable with big windows. This is very welcoming. Nice breakfast and great location. I would love to go back there if i stay again in Oban! Highly recommended

I had a lovely stay, the room was clean, well equipped and had a lovely rustic look. Be mindful, its an old building, so its not soundproof, for anyone with exceptionally light sleep this might be an issue. I was exhausted from my travels, so i can only appreciate the quality of the room and breakfast as i was too tired to explore anything else. The bed was very comfy, toilet and shower were clean. Breakfast was good, it was the usual full breakfast menu + sweet stuff like yoghurt and oats Overall a nice experience and if i visit Oban again, i will definitively stay here.

Was initially quite excited to stay here as the outside facade is beautiful. The place is an absolute tip inside. Very disappointed and had an unpleasant stay. My room had obvious black mould in the bathroom and round the window. The window was also paper thin and the wooden frame is rotting apart which meant you could hear every single noise outside. The room overlooked the busiest roundabout in Oban so was woken up by people walking home from the pub at night and HGVs in the early morning meaning I only got 4 hours sleep. There are no blinds either so expect light to come in at sunrise. Bed also pretty uncomfortable. My room also seemed to have non-euclidian geometry. Put a coin or bottle on any "flat surface" and watch it immediately roll off the edge. The entire room was at a slanted angle which is actually kind of interesting but messes with your head and sense of perception. I.e. I could feel myself being slightly pulled sideways lying in bed. At the prices they charge I'd rather not feel like I'm in an H.P. Lovecraft story. Breakfast was OK and mostly cooked well. However the service was really bad. A fairly sullen lass asked me my room number and muttered and mumbled at me. She told me I could either sit in the main room or at the back of a side room. I grabbed my breakfast and was immediately jumped upon and told that I couldn't sit where I had intended to (despite there being no reserved sign and me going in the direction the girl had pointed to). The main room was full so I had no choice but to sit in the frankly unwelcoming looking sideroom. However I was not allowed to sit by any window and was made to choose from a selection of tables surrounding a leak from the ceiling which dripped on another guest and his food. A light bulb burst with a loud pop above from the water ingress and live electricity. I was not offered toast despite everyone else apparently being offered it when they came in. Sullen lass obviously couldn't be bothered. All the other tables were reserved for a coach group who came in in dribs and drabs and were obviously given preferred treatment over other guests. The whole place is clearly old tired, falling apart and in need of some investment. Every carpet was threadbare to the point thst you could see the broken floorboards underneath and there was clearly water damage everywhere. It's a shame as the building itself could be so beautiful. The only reason Im not leaving 1 star is that the reception staff were lovely, helpful and super friendly. The shower was also great. That and its central location are really its only redeeming features in my opinion.

Stayed here for 2 nights with lomond travel. Hotel is in a great location, just a couple of mins from the front. The room was very clean, comfortable and warm. The shower pressure is excellent. The food was excellent although the service was a bit slow. The staff are pleasant and very helpful I would happily return here if coming to Oban again
