What visitors say
Really impressive museum, similar to the likes of the British Museum. The layout of the rooms is quite confusing as a lot of the rooms have multiple doors, but the building itself is really nice. There is also good ac and a water fountain downstairs in the cafe. You could easily spend a couple of hours in here.

August 2026 visit with family positive experience: not 5 stars as parking is rip off prices and limited to 2 hours and not enough time to visit and enjoy the museum? Oxford council needs to update this it’s not fair.‘parents having to stress about parking after paying £15 for 2 hours and then panic to move car half of the museum takes 2 hours to explore with children. Please change this ridiculous and unfair policy Oxfordshire county council not happy at all with this situation apart form that lovely clean atmosphere not busy of Friday 2026 August visit great for little ones mummy exhibition is the best better than London museum highly recommend

This is our first stop in Oxford during a weekend in May. The museum is about 12 mins walk from Oxford train station. Upon arrival, the staff greet visitors by the entrance. It is a very good sized museum with so many different stuffs from various cultures, countries and times. There are many interactive devices for children to play with. When we were there, a stall was set up to showcase ancient coins, we were able to feel and touch the coins, are were from China, some were from Roman time, some where Britain local. The staff was being friendly and patient with our young child. The building itself is very grand and beautiful, especially the big bring door. It is a must visit in Oxford!

Great visit. Lovely museum with welcoming staff and a thought provoking exhibition on flowers through the ages. Dotty had a wonderful time too. (My Hearing Dog)
