Bath Place is a cluster of seventeenth-century cottages arranged around a small flagstone courtyard, reached down an alley off Holywell Street. The cottages were built up against the old city wall and were occupied for a long period by Flemish weavers; the Turf Tavern, which most visitors spend some time trying to find, is immediately next door through the same warren of passages. New College is on one side, the Bodleian and the Sheldonian a minute away on the other.
The rooms are what you would expect from buildings of this age and character: small, individual, low-doored, with beams, uneven floors and windows onto the courtyard or the alley. Several are reached by narrow twisting staircases, and none of them are large. What they are is genuinely old and genuinely central, in a spot that no modern hotel could replicate, and they are priced well below the townhouse hotels on the High Street.
Breakfast is served on site and there is a small sitting area, but this is a compact, family-run operation rather than a full-service hotel, so do not expect a restaurant, a lift or a concierge. Anyone with mobility difficulties should ask carefully about which rooms are accessible. In exchange you get one of the quietest addresses in central Oxford, five minutes on foot from almost everything worth seeing, with the Turf and the Kings Arms on the doorstep. There is no parking; the nearest sensible option is the Thornhill or Water Eaton Park and Ride.

I stayed here over the May bank holiday weekend, and it was such an amazing find. This family-run 17th-century hotel is exactly what was needed for my time in Oxford. The reception staff were excellent, and breakfast was great. I popped down to the Turf pub below, had a vino, and explored Oxford. It was very clean, the staff were accommodating, and the parking was great. Good comunication nd I would definitely go back.

The rooms were spacious, but I would like to comment that even two years ago, I still remember when at our first night when I was sleeping, apparently my children were concerned because when they were staying up at night they heard some screaming of a woman and it wouldn't stop for the whole of night but the experience here was excellent. Although, we didn't like the breakfast that much.

This is a charming hotel that has character. The staff are friendly and helpful. When I come back to Oxford I will be sure to stay at this hotel. Room: The room that I stayed in was unique and exuded the 17th century character. If you want everything modern this probably isn't the place for you. We were very close to the pub and so it can be noisy. We also stayed during graduation/formal and so the surrounding area could have a party going on. (Late June timeframe)

The first room I was in was on the ground floor facing the walkway that all the pub goers use. It was so noisy. It was also tiny. And had no shower. There was no space for my suitcase, except right up against the door. The room's only exit, I might add. They agreed to move me the following day. The second room was up a steep flight of stairs and slightly larger. Less noisy. The bathroom had a shower. The location of the hotel was fine, close enough to where I needed to be. The service was generally good, mostly friendly and helpful except for one who was a little unpleasant. Other than the noise, it was great having the pub on the premises when I needed supper and didn't feel like going far. The pub is fantastic. You can place your orders online and the food arrives at the table within minutes. The portion was huge.
