About Old Bank Hotel
The Old Bank occupies exactly what its name suggests: a Georgian building on the High Street that traded as a bank until the 1990s, on a site that has been in use since the fifteenth century. The conversion kept the scale and the stonework and threw out the rest, so the interior is emphatically contemporary - pale walls, big windows and a collection of modern British art, several hundred works of it, hung throughout the public rooms and bedrooms rather than shut away.
There are 43 rooms and suites. The ones at the front look straight across to All Souls, the University Church and the Radcliffe Camera, which is as good a view as any hotel in Oxford can offer and worth the upgrade if you can get one; rooms at the back are quieter and overlook the walled garden and the terrace. Bathrooms are marble, beds are large, and the fit-out is consistent rather than eccentric, which is unusual in a city where period hotels often mean unpredictable rooms.
Quod, the ground-floor brasserie, keeps the old banking hall's proportions and is busy from breakfast onwards with a mix of guests, academics and locals; there is a courtyard terrace behind it for warmer months. The hotel is part of a small independent group with the Old Parsonage a few minutes away, and guests can use bicycles and the group's restaurants. The location is the real luxury here - the Bodleian, Christ Church, the Covered Market and the Botanic Garden are all within a five-minute walk, and there is limited private parking, which in this part of Oxford is close to priceless.

Had an excellent two night stay at the Old Bank Hotel with my mum. Fantastic location for exploring Oxford with parking and everything in walking distance. Classic room was great with excellent air con and a fabulous bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return and recommend.

This hotel is hard to find fault with. Ideal location in central Oxford with unrivalled views from both the restaurant and respective rooms. Regarding my room, it was immaculately clean, tastefully decorated with an exceptional bathroom in terms of design. The room was quiet and the bed very comfortable. The room bar was well stocked and they even provided real milk for tea and coffee. Room service was exceptional. Regarding the wider hotel the incumbent Quad restaurant was superb and the views of St Mary’s church unrivalled. Front of house staff were smart professional and amenable. Nothing was too much trouble I even appreciated the analog Yale key which of course worked consistently unlike many temperamental digital key cards All in all, the perfect experience

We had a superior deluxe room on first floor with views of High Standards, All Souls and the University church Excellent secondary double glazing and traffic restrictions meant the room was quiet . We did not come by car. Oxford Tube (coach from London) stop is close by . Parking looked reasonably extensive but possibly difficult to navigate to be owing to the traffic restrictions in central Oxford. The room was large, well appointed and very comfortable with a roomy en suite. Housekeeping was to a high standard. Overall experience was as to be expected from an upmarket establishment in a prime location. The Quod restaurant was good but got very noisy and busy in the evening. The library lounge was quiet and comfortable and served drinks and refreshments. Staff were all very pleasant, helpful and friendly. Overall, impressive . We would stay again but it is pricey. Our room tariff did not include breakfast.

The Old Bank Hotel is a great find. Due to my mum’s mobility needs we were grateful to be able to drive to a hotel in the centre of the city with a car park. We had a lovely ‘mobility friendly’ room on the ground floor, with the staff being very attentive to mum’s needs. We ate in the restaurant twice, once al fresco in the courtyard on a Spring day. It was delightful. We are planning our next visit!
