About Ramada Oxford
A restaurant and bar on site make Ramada Oxford a practical stopover for anyone travelling the M40, with breakfast served each morning and room service available for those who'd rather not leave their room. There's also a garden and gym for guests who want to stretch their legs, and packed lunches can be arranged for those heading straight back out on the road.
The hotel has 83 rooms spread across two floors, with family and accessible options among them, air conditioning throughout, and free WiFi. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the hotel is generally seen as good value for money, though some rooms have been let down by poor upkeep and a musty smell, so it's worth being clear-eyed about that trade-off against the price.
Beyond the restaurant and bar, facilities extend to an indoor swimming pool, meeting rooms and business services, making this as workable for a conference stopover as for a family break. Its position at the Welcome Break service area near Oxford puts Blenheim Palace, the Ashmolean Museum and the Cotswolds countryside all within reach, with pubs and restaurants nearby too. Chargeable on-site parking and an electric vehicle charge point are both available.
What guests say
DONT STAY HERE! DONT STAY HERE! DONT STAY HERE! I booked through Hotels.com and was surprised to be asked to pay an additional £5 in cash for parking on arrival. The room I was given had an overwhelming foul smell and was completely unacceptable and was still poorly cleaned. The mugs had visible dirty rings from previous guests, and the overall standard of housekeeping and maintenance was extremely poor. After my stay, I read through other reviews and noticed that many guests have been reporting the same sewage smell for a long time. Based on my experience, this does not appear to be an isolated incident but an ongoing issue that management has failed to resolve. Breakfast was also disappointing, the overall selection was limited and poor quality, advertised hot breakfast served cold food. The location at the motorway service station is convenient if you simply need somewhere to stop overnight, but that is the only positive I can mention. I also found it concerning that every time a genuine negative review appears, a user called "Paul Smith" seems to post an almost identical five-star review shortly afterwards. Whether genuine or not, it creates the impression that honest criticism is being buried by repetitive positive reviews, which does not inspire confidence. Overall, dirty rooms, poor cleaning standards, possible long-standing sewage problems, disappointing breakfast, unexpected parking charges and inadequate maintenance made this one of the worst hotel stays I've had. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it until these issues are properly addressed. DON'T STAY HERE!, I witnessed 1 hotel GUEST DISMISSED REPEATEDLY at reception when he complained about the cleanliness of his room, HORRIBLE, he just stood there being IGNORED BY STAFF he got so frustrated and understandably angry he didnt know what to do, yet he stayed calm and was nice if it was anyone else they would have lost their shit, staff was automatically on defensive and just ignored him they wanted him to leave so we wouldnt witness the reality of the situation!

The rooms here are lovely, and the staff provide excellent service. The ladies at the front desk are so warm, and the restaurant team are equally friendly. They always welcome guests with great professionalism and enthusiasm. I came to Oxford for an exhibition and booked this place on a budget. It turned out to be a wonderful stay!

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, especially when you’ve never read it. I have always held out that motorway service hotels are all the same, ie bad, simply because I assumed they were. How wrong I was, especially about the Ramada Oxford M40 hotel. Not only were the staff incredibly helpful, but they went out of their way which is way more than I expected. Easy parking, which was included with my room rate, great staff, spotlessly clean rooms and common areas, a very comfortable bed (I had a brilliant night’s sleep), great WiFi (included in my room rate), great choice of tv channels, no outside noise. Can’t forget the tea and coffee making facilities too! Oh, and an on-site restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Excellent choice and very decent prices. I’ve been truly impressed by this property, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who needs accommodation in that area. Its location is Junction 8a, on the M40.

Booked through Hotels.com but had to pay an extra £5 in cash for parking which was a surprise. The first room I was allocated had a strong foul smell, so I asked for a different room and luckily the second one was fine. I then read previous reviews that suggest long-term sewage issues at this hotel. The hotel being located at a large service station is convenient though. All staff are foreign.
