About Hayfield Camping and Caravanning Club Site
Hayfield sits just outside the village in the Dark Peak, less than half a mile from the centre along a riverside path. The site's main draw is what lies immediately behind it: the route up William Clough and onto Kinder Scout, the Peak District's highest ground at 636 metres, starts from here. It's one of the best-known Camping and Caravanning Club sites in the north of England for exactly this reason—serious walkers use it as a launch pad. The Sett Valley Trail to New Mills is nearby, and Manchester is around 40 minutes by road.
Pitches are grass or hardstanding, taking tents, caravans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups on many. Camping pods offer a solid roof if you prefer. The modern facilities block delivers the club's usual standard: toilets, showers, laundry, washing-up areas and a motorhome service point. There's a small shop for basics and gas, plus a children's play area that makes it work for families as well as fell-walkers. The wooded, riverside setting is more sheltered than the altitude suggests, though drainage on grass pitches can struggle after heavy rain—this is the wet side of the Pennines. Dogs are welcome on leads. Hayfield village has pubs, a chippy and buses. Summer weekends and May bank holidays book out well ahead.

A lovely site surrounded by hills. Had a nervous drive through Hayfield to reach the site in our motorhome. It was a Saturday, sunny and there were cars parked everywhere making the route quite tight for us. People were walking up or returning from Kinder Scout. We'd like to return but will avoid busy Saturdays!

Arrived here Tuesday 5th May. First long distance on my own. Awful coming through Hayfield about 2.30pm. Trying to go up and impatient people not waiting to come down. Don’t know how I got through in one piece. Any thought of leaving site, in my van, to go to Castletown abandoned. However, site lovely, pristine and informative. Staff great and very helpful. I seldom use the Caravan and camping sites as not where I want to be and always thought motorhome club better but was very pleasantly surprised. Could not fault site so would highly recommended but already feeling stressed out to get back through Hayfield so going very early in the morning hoping to avoid the traffic. Internet, for me, useless but luckily had “hot spot” on my iPhone so got on iPad. Tv totally useless. Lovely walk from site, along small river, into village. What a lovely village Hayfield. On walk, into village area, table tennis, exercise area, slide, skate park, cricket ground.

Lovely site in a lovely village. Site staff were very friendly and helpful. Site was well maintained and spotlessly clean. Beautiful riverside walk down into hayfield.

Excellently maintained camping & caravan site. Very popular and can get busy, but the pitches are generously sized and never feels crowded. Toilet and shower block spacious and kept very clean, with decent, warm showers and very efficient hand driers. They've even thought to include multiple hooks in the loos & showers to easily keep everything off the floor. There's a small shop that takes card payments and, stocked with the basics, and the usual things you might forget. The staff/owners were very friendly and helpful. We'd booked two separate pitches at different times, but arrived together nice and early, and they managed to find two pitches adjacent to each other for us. And all this located in the heart of Dark/High Peak with numerous walks literally starting from the entrance gates. A good range of these walks are also on display, with route details available from staff on request. Finally, just a short stroll away is the first-class Sportsman Inn, also with very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice range of beers, and a good menu. The food was very nice, and they weren't stingy with the portion sizes. Very much looking forward to a return visit next season!
