About Carningli Campsite
Tucked alongside the Newport estuary with Carningli Mountain rising behind, this low-impact site puts you within touching distance of Pembrokeshire's coastal drama. From your pitch you might spot the glint of rockpools below or the coastal path snaking away toward clifftops and beaches. The upper field commands sweeping views over mountain and water; lower down, a woodland fringe and stream border the estuary path – perfect for an early-morning wander or a paddle with the dog.
Facilities stay intentionally simple: composting and portable loos, hot showers, washing-up area, and fresh drinking water keep things comfortable without intruding on the natural setting. Campfires and barbecues are welcomed, and there's space for tents, families, and even single-sex or student groups looking for a quiet base.
Newport village sits under 10 minutes' walk away, stocked with pubs, cafés, a butcher, and a health-food shop – handy for provisions or a post-hike pint. Whether you're here to climb, kayak, wild-swim, or simply soak up some of Wales's most spectacular coastal scenery, Carningli delivers without fuss.

What visitors say
I have enjoyed coming here since a child and now my children are enjoying the same experience. The walk is not tricky so good for all ages / abilities. You are rewarded with stunning views of the sea and countryside once you get to the top.

The mountain of angels 😇 such a magical place with plenty of myths and legends and the views amazing 🥰. Wouldn't say easily routed out if you ain't from the area so would suggest a little research . Not a strenuous climb if you do a lot of walking. Well worth a visit.

The Carningly is my favourite 'almost a mountain' hill... if you know what I mean? It's rugged and majestic, with stunning 360 degree views that take in coast and country, but still gentle enough for kids and oldies alike. Iron Age Hillfort... It's ramparts are still very well preserved, as well as evidence of huts and other dwellings which are easy to find with an OS map or app. Plenty of parking, perfect place for a picnic and just isolated enough for a spot of wild camping if you follow the dusk/dawn rule and leave no trace. Only a short way from Newport where there is a small shop, public toilets, pubs, café, fish and chips.
