About Brithdir Mawr Wild and Eco Camping
Tucked at the foot of Carningli in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, this quiet site occupies a field within a thriving eco-community that's been refining off-grid living since 1994. The whole 80-acre restored farm runs on spring water and renewable energy, with composting systems feeding the fruit trees – and visitors can join tours or courses to learn more about self-sufficiency first-hand.
Camping here is wonderfully simple: pitch where you like in the designated field, use the compost loos and solar showers (you hoist up a sun-warmed bag for a private outdoor rinse), and gather round hire firepits under the stars. It's genuinely basic – no electric hook-ups, no hot running water – so come prepared for a proper wild experience.
A footpath leads down to Newport village, two miles away, where you'll find cafés, a well-regarded butcher for barbecue supplies, and a handful of cosy pubs – handy when you fancy a break from campfire cooking.
