Lazonby Campsite

The campsite is in a scenic area with a lovely river running alongside it. We were also genuinely impressed by the volunteers who maintain the pool and facilities; their efforts don’t go unnoticed and are much appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall experience was let down by poor management and lack of rule enforcement. The site is small, and people didn’t follow the marked camping layout. The tent next to us spilled well over the lines, leaving little space or privacy. Noise was a constant issue. Quiet hours were ignored, with loud music and children shouting well past 10pm. Parents didn’t seem to take any responsibility, and there was no staff presence to manage it. To make things worse, football was played in the middle of the camping area rather than on the field. Our tent and car were hit. There is a field and playground next to the campsite. The toilets were quite a distance from our pitch, and they’re part of the pool facilities rather than dedicated campsite amenities. There are 2 toilets. 1 shower with a lockable door and 1 with just a shower curtain. While in the shower a child was constantly banging on the door despite it being locked. Not a pleasant experience. The pool volunteers kept the loo roll topped up and tidied as best they could. However, unsupervised kids left a mess of empty cans and wrappers. We were also surprised by the charge of an additional £6.50 per person just to use the pool. It is a beautiful setting and hats off to the friendly pool volunteers, but the campsite itself needs much better organisation and oversight. Right now, it doesn’t deliver the relaxing experience or value for money that it should.

Amazing little campsite and for the money, it's perfect if you have children. I love how small and close the site is. You can fit like 10 tents/caravans on site, but that's what helps make it so good. There is a really good park on site and an outdoor pool for £6. Being right next to the river was great aswel being able to sit with a beer and look at that view every night helps just relax and forget about everything. Highly recommend. Will be booking again as soon as i can.

Absolutely amazing campsite. The park next door is great and the swimming pool is a must in summer. Lush river walks and countryside as far as the eye can see

Nice little campsite in a great location next to a river. River was perfect for paddleboarding! Field for camping on was a little dangerous...very very muddy, and car almost got stuck in the mud. Supposed to be a quiet campsite after 9pm...but unfortunately the night we stayed there was a large group of campers who stayed up until around 3am, shouting, laughing, talking loudly and arguing. We had booked to stay for 2 nights but left after the first night as we could not face another night of being kept awake by noisy campers...especially with having children with us. The same campers were also ripping branches off trees, I'm not just talking about collecting a bit of fire wood, I mean almost uprooting small trees and breaking off large branches to burn in a firepit. Toilet facilities (shared with the swimming pool users), were just ok. Unfortunately in the ladies block there are only 2 toilets...1 of which was out of order...so 1 toilet for the whole campsite and pool users...so less than ideal as you can imagine. Can't comment on the showers or pool as never got the chance to use them. The pool did look nice though. We probably will return at some point as like I said the location was perfect, and having the pool and playground on site too is perfect for the children. Hopefully we'll be more lucky with fellow campers if we return...being kept awake until 3am is not good at all. Maybe there needs to be a way for the campsite to monitor noise at night?...I'm not sure how? Maybe cctv? I don't know but it was just really unfortunate. I understand that the people running the campsite are volunteer's and everyone we spoke with were lovely...I'm sure they are doing all they can to keep this site running.
