About Black Swan
Black Swan suits anyone wanting a quiet base in the Eden Valley rather than the busier heart of the Lake District, with the fells and Penrith both within easy reach. This is a traditional inn in Culgaith, with just seven rooms, so the feel is small and personal rather than corporate.
Rooms are en-suite, comfortable and well kept, with family and accessible options available, plus drinks provided in the room. The restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, serving hearty dinners and breakfasts built around good local ingredients, and there's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days. Free WiFi, 24 hour reception and free on-site parking round out the practical side.
Outside, the area offers fishing, horse riding and cycling nearby, along with mountain views from the property itself, making it a sound choice for walkers and cyclists as much as those simply after a peaceful few days. Staff are consistently described as warm and welcoming, and there are further pubs and restaurants close by for anyone wanting a change of scene.
What guests say
Wonderful stay here on our return from Scotland. Jacky welcomed us on Friday and we had a nice large room overlooking the beer garden, and a gorgeous sunset view. Tea/ coffee service in the room had several selections, as well as toiletries. They reserve a table for Dinner, as overnight guests, and it was fabulous! There was a very generous portion and not the basic pub food. We had pork 'stroganoff' over rice. Delicious! Breakfast is included with a stay, with several options to choose from. Steve heads the kitchen, he and Jacky are both very personable. Very close to the NT Acorn Bank property, and gorgeous views across the dales. Hiking and other outdoor activities around, too. We'll definitely be back! Be sure to book directly with the Inn to ensure the whole tariff goes to them. They go over and above and deserve the fare going to them. Thanks again, Jack & Steve! We'll book again soon.

Stayed at The Black Swan on our journey home from Carradale, Kintyre to Wiltshire. What an absolute gem. Jacky, the host was so warm and welcoming. The room and en-suite were spotlessly clean. The food beautiful and plentiful. I don't imagine anyone leaves the restaurant hungry ever. The village was extremely quiet. Thank you.

I spent a weekend in May at the Black Swan Inn to meet up with an old friend and to spend some time on the hills. From the moment we arrived the team were really welcoming and friendly. The rooms are comfy, cosy, and clean (I had room 6, Jay had room 4 both very happy). The food is delicious and the bar is comfortable with a nice selection of drinks (session IPA for me). All in all 5/5 from me and I am planning a return visit later in the year.

Lovely place! Welcoming, friendly landlady, room was small but well equipped, breakfast service was first class, food excellent. I would highly recommend the Black Swan to others looking to stay in the lakes.
