About Patterdale Hotel
Ullswater is one of the quieter corners of the Lake District, ringed by fells and popular with walkers, and the Patterdale Hotel sits right in the thick of it. This 60-room hotel makes the most of its setting, with mountain views from the grounds and a garden and picnic area for taking in the scenery before or after a day on the trails.
Rooms are en-suite and come with drinks making facilities, and the hotel offers the sort of practical extras that matter after a long walk: luggage storage, laundry service, and packed lunches made up on request. There's a restaurant and bar on site serving breakfast and dinner, plus a snack bar and outdoor seating for something lighter. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, though service has occasionally been reported as inconsistent.
Beyond the hotel, the area is built for walking and cycling, with fishing, golf, horse riding and watersports all nearby, along with pubs and restaurants within easy reach. Free on-site parking makes it a straightforward base for exploring Ullswater and the wider Lake District countryside.

What guests say
The hotel is ideally placed to walk into Glenridding for the Ullswater Steamer landing, food and drink, the tourist information centre and shops. The sausages at breakfast were delicious. The evening meal in the restaurant just needed to be hotter but was tasty and the portion size was adequate. There was plenty of choice at breakfast. Cereals including porridge, tinned fruit, yogurt, sausages, bacon, fried eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, hash browns and brown and white bread for toast. You could order egg on toast, boiled egg or kippers.I enjoyed my breakfast. There was as much tea and coffee as you wanted and apple and orange juice. The shower was powerful , hot and easy to control. There was a bath so my husband enjoyed a long soak as we only have a shower at home.We were in a room at the back of the hotel and the room was hot and a fan would have made it easier to sleep and more comfortable to spend time in the room. The beer garden is large with umbrellas at the tables. The view is stunning. We had a meal in the lounge the first night and the food was tasty, good quality and there was plenty of it.We were there on a Wednesday which has a happy hour. So the men paid £3 a pint for certain beers and the wine was£4 a glass for us ladies. There was a female singer on who was very good. We would stay here again

The hotel is overdue some modernisation but its clean and in an ideal location. The food is really nice and well priced. The beer garden is a great place to sit and chill after a walk or day out with great views. Breakfast was as good as anywhere 😋. The staff are all friendly and polite and and never stop ! Plenty of creaking floorboards but on the whole I wouldn't hesitate in recommending.

If it wasn’t for the great location this would have been lower. The waiter staff were amazing. The bar staff and reception not so great. I was made to feel like I shouldn’t be there. Maybe it’s the way I look. My first room had mould on the bedsheet. I emailed a month before and asked for a particular room. Not done. I had to move rooms at 1030pm, move again Sunday for 1 night. The last room looked like it had a stag party in it. And toe nails on the carpet are a lovely touch. Want to open the window? No problem, well maybe a little problem.

Although the rooms are a little tired they are clean, cosy and offer plenty of storage. There's a hairdryer, kettle with tea and coffee and the towels are lovely and white and soft and fluffy. The staff at the Patterdale hotel are amazing. They can't do enough for you. They make sure you have everything you need and are well fed. The menu offers plenty of choice including a roast each day. The Dinner bed and breakfast option is good value for money. There are lots of separate communal spaces to sit, relax, play games or read or just chill in the bar or garden.
