Brook Hollow
Westmorland and Furness
The countryside around Ullswater draws people for walking and solitude, and Brook Hollow sits on three acres where the boundary between garden and fell is deliberately blurred. Built in 1909 from local stone, this Edwardian Arts and Crafts house was designed to fit its landscape. A woodland drive leads to it through mature trees, and from the grounds you can step directly onto the fells on foot.
Inside, the house has been furnished to honour its age—wood panelling, stained glass, an impressive staircase—while the bathrooms and kitchen are properly modern. Five bedrooms sleep ten across two storeys, the principal room upstairs featuring a roll-top bath and separate shower. Downstairs, a sitting room has an open fire and bay window looking over the trees; the dining room centres on a wood-burning stove with comfortable seating for the whole group. The kitchen is large enough for shared cooking, and there's a boot room and laundry space, which matters on a walking holiday. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. This is a place for two families or a group of friends rather than a single household. No smoking is permitted in the property.
