Perth and Kinross

Blairgowrie sits on the edge of Cairngorms National Park, with moorland, forests and river valleys spreading across Perth and Kinross. Dalnaglar Castle occupies its own grounds here—a whitewashed, turreted property with space enough for a large family or group to have the whole place to yourselves. The castle comes with woodland and landscaped grounds, parking for eight cars, and an unfenced pond a hundred yards away that guests can explore.

Inside are ten bedrooms across three floors, sleeping up to 20. Most beds are zip-and-link doubles that split into singles, giving flexibility for different group arrangements. Nine bathrooms are distributed throughout—five ensuite to bedrooms, and four shared—with baths and showers available. Ground-floor living spaces include two sitting rooms (both with open fires), a dining room, a kitchen equipped for cooking for numbers, a library, and utility areas. Essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered; there are open fires with logs provided. Children and adults can be accommodated, and one dog is welcome.

The location suits extended families, reunions, or groups wanting a single base for exploring Perthshire and the national park beyond. Sloping ceilings in two upstairs bedrooms are something to know about; a travel cot, highchair and stairgate can be arranged if needed.

We stayed in Dalnaglar Cottage, it was lovely and quiet and the hot tub was great. The cottage could do with a bit of TLC though, the kitchen tap continually dripped, the bathroom light sometimes flickered and there was mould in the bathroom as the extractor fan didn't work. The heating also switched off about 7pm so it got very cold in the evenings. Tried to contact before booking and also before our arrival but to no avail. There was also only 1 tea bag provided, other places we've stayed in the past there has been tea&coffee provided so I had to survive caffeine free as wasn't worth buying a box of tea for a few days! The Glenshee cafe down the road was lovely, would recommend a stop there. Also the Persie gin distillery is great

Location was fantastic. Very nice and remote feeling yet with a closeness to services in Blairgowrie and Braemare. The cottage was lovely, with a very rustic feel which we loved. The hot tub was perfect for relaxing in and held temperatures well. Only downside were the beds which were quite uncomfortable. Great walking routes around the area which the dog loved. Can recommend lots!

I stayed in the castle with a group of friends for a long weekend. It was gorgeous - the castle is much bigger than I was expecting and very spacious despite some rooms / turrets being out of bounds. The team at Dalnaglar were very helpful and responsive. We booked 10 castle rooms, but one of them became unavailable at the last minute so we were given a room in the lovely Tower Cottage. We loved the fireplaces in the library and drawing room, and the large dining room. The loch on the estate is beautiful, and there's so much walking to do right on your doorstep without needing to get in a car.
