About Atholl Arms Hotel
Step into one of the 31 en-suite rooms at the Atholl Arms Hotel and you get a straightforward, comfortable base rather than anything flashy - some rooms show their age, but each comes with drinks facilities and the reassurance of 24 hour reception if you need anything sorted. The building's character comes through most in its communal spaces, particularly the cosy fireplaces that make the bar and lounge areas a good place to settle in after a day outdoors.
Food is a strong point, with a restaurant serving hearty breakfasts and traditional Scottish dishes such as steak and ale pie, alongside a bar for a quieter drink. Outside there's a garden with outdoor seating, and practical extras including laundry service, luggage storage, and meeting rooms for those combining a stay with work or a wedding, which the hotel also hosts. Pets are welcome, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car easy.
Set in Blair Atholl near Pitlochry, the hotel puts guests within reach of walking routes, fishing, watersports, and the pubs and restaurants of the surrounding area. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, adding to the hotel's genuine Highland feel even where the rooms themselves are more functional than modern.
What guests say
Enjoyed a lovely weekend at Atholl Arms. Weather stopped us from eating on the river banks but the Bistro served the same food in a lovely atmosphere. All staff were great (especially Lisa), food was superb and atmosphere good. Breakfast was huge and kept us going all day. Our junior suite was large and comfortable. The slipper bath was a real delight. Loved the dog themes throughout the hotel. Will definitely stay again.

A lovely 'grand highland hotel with loads of charm and historical character. A bit tired in places but that just shows it is well used and liked. Great staff, good food.

The staff here are exceptional. I have food intolerances and they anticipated my every need once they knew this. A particular shout out to the ladies - sorry I forgot names - the tall lady with short blonde hair, and 2 ladies with brown hair and glasses. Also the housekeeping staff, who were always happy and helpful. The 200+year old building is stunning, particularly the dining room, with authentic swords on loan from Blair Atholl, a huge fire , the biggest mirrors I've ever seen above traditional, working fire places, tall windows and ceiling and beautifully decorated and furnished. If you love historical buildings, this place is for you. The lounge as you come in is also spectacular, with an open fire, leather armchairs and a country club atmosphere. The bedrooms are thoughtfully decorated and in a period style and furnished with beds that look like princess beds. And of course, who can forget the stunning setting of Blair Atholl?! As a single female traveller I felt completely safe and relaxed here in the hotel, and in Blair Atholl and the Atholl estate. If pressed, I'd say the only downsides were: 1. the restaurant food and cooking. The food was the usual pub fare and overcooked, particularly the spicy chicken and flatbread. An item advertised as vegan (this should mean no animal products) actually contained milk. A polite suggestion that the chef double checks all ingredients (including the pre-made, bought-in packet food and frozen food- quite a lot of the menu appeared to come under this umbrella) and changes the item description on the menu. 2. the hall and stairs areas are tired and could do with some love. All in all, this far exceeds expectations and is a total bargain for the price; value for money.
