About Shah of Persia by Marstons Inns

Rooms at the Shah of Persia by Marstons Inns come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in the room, and the option of a family room for those travelling with children. Each of the 15 rooms is kept clean and comfortable, with free WiFi throughout, though it's worth packing an extra layer as some rooms can run cold.

Downstairs, the pub side of the property does the heavy lifting: a restaurant and bar serving a wide range of food and drink, including gluten-free options and kids' meals, plus outdoor seating for warmer days and breakfast to start the morning properly. Staff are on hand around the clock at the 24 hour reception, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward.

The Poole address puts guests within reach of golf, fishing and watersports, along with further pubs, bars and restaurants nearby for those who fancy a change of scene. It's a straightforward, well-run base in Dorset rather than a boutique escape, with the basics handled reliably.

I have never seen a "hotel" more dismal than this; I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I hardly know where to start—what you see in the photos bears no resemblance to reality. The staff is very poorly trained; at breakfast, they brought me coffee milk foam for my child's cereal, and the next day, cold coffee milk to put in the cereal for a 2-year-old—and there wasn't even enough of it. The bathroom plumbing didn't work properly, the bathroom ventilation was broken, and all the heat from the system poured into the room. The windows were 150 years old and offered no ventilation. Nothing gets changed during your stay unless you specifically ask for it; no one even brings toilet paper, and there isn't even a toilet brush. The family room was extremely small—there wasn't enough space to walk around the bed—and no one cleaned. The walls were cracked and, in places, actually broken. It was a terrible experience, and I paid well over £100 a night—it’s not worth it. It’s a 3-star hotel that, in my experience, doesn't deserve even 2 stars. I do not recommend it to anyone; I left early because I simply couldn't sleep there anymore. I forgot to mention that the tables weren't cleaned; in the morning, my coffee mug stuck to the table because it was so sticky, and the floor around the bar was just as sticky.

Firstly the staff are just amazing, as long as the management realize that im happy, the food is reasonably priced but tasted way better than imagined , rooms are nice and neat and perfectly reflects the price, but my word I would travel back just for the breakfast the fry up was excellent. Best breakfast ive had. Thanks alot to the chef.

We only stayed the one night, but the staff were very pleasant, the room was nice, they put a fan in there as it was a hot day (nice touch) there were coffee and tea facilities.

Booked an overnight stay as the location is perfect for catching an early morning ferry, being less than 10 minutes from the terminal. Being Marstons pub, we expected a decent evening meal and a great pint, without having to go to town. The room was a good size and clean, big bed but very uncomfortable, unsupportive mattress. The bathroom was terrible, floor looks like the ones in the public toilets, one tap was broken, heater in the bathroom didnt work, making the bathroom cold and uncomfortable. Shower had bits of black mould around the rim and we found previous guests hair on the floor and in the bath. The dinner was very disappointing. Bar area had unpleasant smell and floor around the bar was very sticky. Food choice was very limited with no festive options available, unless pre-ordered. Unsure why that is, as we didnt want the full festive menu, just a festive items that were advertising on the website. You can walk into any Weatherspoons and order festive items of the menu without any issues? We also expected decent choice of ales being Marstons pub, only to find they were all out apart from one weak ale. Food took ages to come out, me and children left before they got their kids desserts as it was taking more than half an hour, even though we reminded the waitress. The staff on duty was nice, but it simply wasn't enough to make up for all the negatives
