About Gwynfa

Porthmadog, on the Gwynedd coast within reach of the Sygun Copper Mine, is a handy base for exploring this part of North Wales, and Gwynfa offers a straightforward, well-run bed and breakfast right on Penamser Road, about 0.67 miles from the town centre by road.

Rooms are en-suite and include family options, kept clean and fitted with small thoughtful extras such as drinks in the room. Guests can expect views over the garden or towards the mountains, and mornings bring a cooked-to-order breakfast. The garden itself is a pleasant spot to sit, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car easy. Staff are on hand around the clock and are known for offering useful local recommendations.

A supermarket sits directly opposite, with further shops, pubs, restaurants and eateries within walking distance, and the surrounding area offers golf, fishing and walking routes for those wanting to get outdoors. Pets are welcome, making Gwynfa a practical choice for a Porthmadog stay.

I had an amazing stay there! Beryl the host was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts she prepared were delicious. She also helped me with washing and drying my clothes after a hiking trip in the Snowdonja Mountains and gave me valuable tips about what to see and where to eat well in the area. Room was comfortable and tidy, equipped with everything you could possibly need and some more. Location is also very good, right in the middle between the train station and the town centre with a bus stop right in front of the B&B and a supermarket just across the street. I highly recommend to spend a night there if you are in Porthmadog or Northern Wales in general.

If I could give no stars then I would. Please read. Having booked our room at Gwynfa B&B on the Friday evening we started our 4 hour drive early doors Saturday morning. We always book with small independent B&Bs rather than the big commercial hotels, got to help the little folk. At 9.10am I received a call from Beryl to say that she had cancelled the booking as they were full. Fortunately I eventually managed to find another accommodation sadly in a different location to where we needed to be. I accepted the cancellation and was told that there would not be a cancellation charge as it was not my error. Now over 2 months later I still have not received a refund and Gwynfa B&B do not reply to my communications. Sadly I am forced to air my view. Extremely poor management, sadly I am forced to take this further.

The Host Beryl is very friendly and helpful and goes above and beyond to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Very warm and welcoming. Easy to find. Parking is available out front of property for guests only. No service available for electric vehicles requiring charging. The B&B is in a convenient location with a grocery store across the road. A 10 minute walk maximum to the centre of town to pubs and restaurants, shops and the waterfront. The B&B rooms are very warm and cosy and very clean and tidy. Perhaps a little cluttered with decor but this does not affect the comfort of your stay. The beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is wonderful and Beryl is very attentive to your needs. There is a lovely garden front and back to enjoy if you choose to. The property is not suitable for guests with walking disability or in a wheelchair as the bedrooms are accessed via an internal staircase. Highly recommend stay here.
