What visitors say
We should have been going to RIAT which unfortunately got cancelled. So rather than waste the weekend we decided to to visit some aircraft museums. This was the first and oldest aircraft museum in England. We had a really good time here. Good amount of aircraft. The people at the museum were very friendly and very knowledgeable. We spent over two hours here.

Wow! What an absolute hidden gem. Nestled just off the M25, we would never have expected to find something so fascinating. We had a bit of an aviation themed weekend and visited the museum after a trip to the Shuttleworth Collection the day before. It appeared deceptively small from the outside, with the car park just in front of the outdoor displays. As we entered the museum, we were welcomed into a cafe and shop area with very pleasant staff. We spent quite some time in each indoor hangar, with the displays being extremely interesting. There was always a helpful volunteer nearby to answer any questions. The star of the show was certainly Viv and his talk on the Rolls-Royce engines. I am not someone who is engineering minded, and I haven't actually got a clue about what goes on in cars and planes. Viv made it easy to understand. He had the most amazing storytelling mannerisms. It was just like we were transported back in time and before we knew it, we had stayed for the entire hour long talk. It featured a demonstration where he told us exactly where to stand for the perfect video of the engine in action. He was open to any questions, and offered his best answers with no judgement. Truly a remarkable teacher! The cafe was lovely and we enjoyed a great coffee and cake after the museum trip. The perfect end to a perfect day.

I was traveling on the outskirts of London and I love a good museum, but especially an aviation or military museum. This delivers both aspects. I received a great history lesson as well as a wonderful demonstration of the internal combustion engine operation. The staff is absolutely wonderful here. I am always impressed with British museums and this one does not disappoint! I highly recommend it especially for those who want to pass on some knowledge to the youth.
