Highlands Farmhouse dates from 1780 and retains the character you'd expect of a Sussex farmhouse from that era—oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, and rooms arranged around what is now a conservatory with motorised blinds and full-width sliding doors. The building has been carefully updated with modern essentials while keeping its rural identity intact. Four bedrooms sleep seven: three doubles and one single. Two bathrooms serve the property, one en suite to the ground floor and a full bathroom upstairs. Heating is oil central, with underfloor warmth in the conservatory, and Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included.
The two-acre garden is the real draw. A stream, waterfall and pond feature among slopes and mature trees, with patio space, garden furniture and a barbecue for outdoor meals. The grounds are home to fallow deer, foxes, rabbits and regular birdlife; badgers and owls are active after dark. Parking for five cars sits on-site, and there's a bike store for exploring the surrounding network of footpaths and bridleways. The property is within a mile of a pub and about six miles from either Heathfield or Battle. Children under six are not suitable for this property due to the water features and slopes in the garden. No smoking indoors.
