Lower Marley Farm - Apple Cottage

Photo: Jane Corry

Apple Cottage is a beamed cottage converted from a former cow byre on a working 14-acre farm near Battle. The single bedroom has a zip-and-link bed that can be configured as a kingsize or two singles, and there is a shower room on the ground floor. Downstairs, an open-plan living space combines kitchen, dining and sitting areas with a TV and woodburner, opening onto a shared garden with seating and a barbecue.

One well-behaved dog stays free. You have use of a shared washing machine in an external building, and parking for two cars on site. Wifi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The farm sits within walking distance of Sedlescombe village and its pub; Battle's famous 1066 battlefield and abbey are nearby, and the 1066 walk starts from the property itself. The Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway at Tenterden, Bodiam Castle, Hastings, Rye and Camber beach are all within a short drive. A small children's play area operates on the farm. No smoking inside the cottage.

Lovely 'Apple Cottage' very comfortable & everything we need. Good location, private + internally all in good condition. Hosts very friendly, welcoming & left some essentials to start our stay. Secure site + dogs welcome & lovely walks through nature.

Warm welcome from Andrew who showed us round before going to quince cottage for our stay for the week, we were so lucky with the weather. Looked out onto field of sheep and lambs each morning, even saw fox running across field, the cottage was warm and cosy, though concern with bedroom on mezzanine floor in the eaves, unable to stand up round bed, bed was soft and had no problems sleeping. Handy location for getting about, many NT and EH properties within short distance. Lovely woods locally for taking dog out. We have an electric car and there are fast charge points locally in Hastings which we found useful.

Compact accommodation for 2, but very cosy and everything we required. Perfect location, peaceful with countryside walks direct on the doorstep.

Lovely couple who own the place. Immaculately presented and clean. Welcomed with home made biscuits and freshly laid eggs from their chickens. Very comfortable and well equipped. Lovely grounds and convenient location. Highly recommend
