Culver Croft

Photo: Gary Pullen

Culver Croft sits in open countryside within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by fields and established wildflower meadows. Chiddingstone Castle is minutes away on foot, and the National Trust's Tudor village at Chiddingstone—said to be the finest surviving example of its kind—lies less than a mile off. The setting is genuinely quiet, though a pond in the adjacent field sits unfenced; the lodge's own garden is securely enclosed.

The property is a single-storey ground-floor space. The open-plan living and kitchen area has a sofa bed (double), breakfast table, smart TV, and full cooking facilities including electric oven, gas hob and dishwasher. Patio doors open onto decking with countryside views. The bedroom contains a kingsize bed, also with patio access. A walk-in shower and toilet complete the facilities. Everything you need to cook and stay comfortably is provided—heating, power, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included, along with a welcome pack. There is one step up to the entrance; inside, it is all on one level.

The decking and front garden come with barbecue and firepit seating, and there is parking for two cars. The lodge does not permit smoking. It works well for a couple wanting countryside quiet with easy access to both National Trust heritage and the walking routes that crisscross the High Weald.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Culver's Croft for a long weekend. We were there to take part in an Amateur Radio contest - this meant that we spent most of our time on the property and didn't spend too much time exploring the local area. The property was clean and well maintained. A great range of amenities were provided (e.g hob, oven, microwave, pots n pans, dishwasher, utensils etc as well as WiFi and TV). This made it super easy to make the most of the weekend and enjoy a bit of cooking without hauling all of our own kitchen stuff. The property itself is set on a lovely parcel of land - it's very secluded and you have beautiful views across an adjacent field with plenty of wildlife. The nearest town is not too far away (about a 15 minute drive to major supermarkets) and a few takeaways etc deliver to the spot. The hosts were very attentive, friendly and communicated well with us ahead of and during the stay. The only "negative" per-se was the wifi was a little spotty and slow at times - but this is to be expected out in the country & frankly you don't need fast reliable internet to have a good time! Definitely look forward to staying again soon!

Such a lovely, quiet area. Loved watching the planes come in to land at Gatwick, spotting wildlife & just relaxing. Lovely, clean & well presented place to stay. Had everything we needed & we will definitely be booking for next year.

Wonderful winter break! Culver Croft was amazing! So clean and spacious, the bed is super comfortable and the views are spectacular! Surrounded by fields and woodland with lots of wildlife including deer, pheasants, kites, buzzards, owls and rabbits! What a perfect getaway! The owners Fiona and Anthony have done well to create such a wonderful home away from home. Thank you!
