The Old Stables Lodge

Push open the door and you're in a rounded, light-filled space under glass. The Old Stables Lodge is a dome with a mezzanine bed tucked into the upper curve—lie there and watch the stars through the opening skylight. Below, the main living area opens onto wide decking with a hot tub, seating areas and enough room to cook or simply sit out over the meadows beyond. The building sits in long grass screened for privacy, with woodland and field views from the windows.

Sleeping four means two bedrooms: the mezzanine upstairs, and a second room below. There's one bathroom. Essentials—electricity, bed linen and towels—are covered. A log burner warms the space through winter; in summer the deck and hot tub are the draw. A pub lies within a mile for an evening out. No smoking inside the property.

Chiddingstone Castle, Hever and Penshurst are all close by, and the site sits under an hour from London by train or car. The location suits anyone wanting to step back from town life for a few days, whether to read, walk the surrounding countryside or make the most of the rural quiet.
