East Peak Campsite

East peak campsite, Sheffield S6 6GT, UK

Hilltop moorland camping around 12 miles from Sheffield, on the Peak District's edge

About East Peak Campsite

East Peak Campsite occupies high ground near Silkstone, around twelve miles from Sheffield, making the most of its moorland position with wide views across open country from most pitches. This working smallholding turned campsite has a relaxed, informal feel, offering grass pitches for tents alongside space for touring caravans and motorhomes. The elevated spot means it catches the wind and any passing weather more than sheltered valley sites nearby—bring a sturdy tent and warm sleeping bag even in summer—but the payoff is some of the clearest night skies within easy reach of Sheffield and Barnsley, with minimal light pollution.

Facilities are straightforward rather than luxurious: showers, electric hook-ups on some pitches, and a small shop for essentials. Dogs are welcome, and surrounding footpaths give immediate access to walking across the South Yorkshire and Peak District boundary without needing the car. It works well as a base for exploring Sheffield and Barnsley, or for a simple overnight stop en route deeper into the Peaks, though some visitors note the site can feel a little tired in places. Booking ahead is sensible for weekends year-round.

2 fields surrounded by a dry stone wall, 2 loo's, fresh water tap, Patrick the owner is polite, and keeps the fields clean and tidy. Beautiful views for miles. Watch the sun raise and watch it set, fantastic location for a quiet get away. A little busier than I would have liked, but it was a bank holiday. Looks like a good place if your a walker.

Easy to get to and has porta loos too. It's perfect for wild camping! When we arrived it was only us and another camper. When we came back after our hike it soon filled out. Which wasn't an issue! As still plenty of space! There was some loud campers which is a shame but it wasn't the camps/owners fault! Just inconsiderate campers. Would definitely book again!

Water tap was broken and couldn’t get fresh water , left toilet didn’t flush. Bugs floating in the exposed water supply. Had to go to a pub to refill my water Would be a great campsite for wild campers or someone travelling to Sheffield

Pleasant enough field with views and peaceful, what is letting us down right now during our stay is water tap not working, your own supply of water is a must before arriving as the water supply as advertised cannot clearly be relied on
