Small touring and glamping park near Branscombe, close to Sidmouth's coast path
About Kings Down Tail Caravan and Camping Park
Kings Down Tail is a small, thoughtfully run caravan and camping park tucked into the hills between Sidmouth and Branscombe, within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors consistently praise the warm welcome, spotless facilities and peaceful, well-kept pitches—many sheltered by hedges and trees—that make it feel more like a private garden than a commercial site. The South West Coast Path and the dramatic Branscombe landslip are an easy walk away, and the village's beach, pub and bakery are all within reach on foot.
On-site facilities are modest but well maintained, with a small shop covering essentials and a handful of glamping pods alongside touring pitches and seasonal berths. Some guests note that the site can feel a little old-fashioned in places, but most appreciate the low-key, traditional atmosphere—this is a base for walkers and coastal explorers rather than a resort. Open mid-March to mid-November, it suits those after quiet, scenic surroundings and genuine hospitality. Sidmouth's beaches and restaurants are a short drive for those seeking a change of scene.

What visitors say
This is a gem of a site, with a spacious pitch and lots of room for the kids to play. The toilets and showers were spotless and never ran out of toilet paper! The staff were very friendly and they served proper pizzas on the sat night which saved me cooking when we arrived! It has a well stocked shop and a nice café serving a variety of meals. There is a private hire swimming pool, a great kids play area, table football and a play room with pool table in case of a rainy day. We definitely intend to return.

Great site with great facilities. Family run site with a little extra. The site is very tidy with a good dog walking area. The showers and toilets are spot on and there’s a lovely shop which stock essentials and plenty of other treats. Great location and easily accessible.

This is a lovely campsite, staff are really welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Toilets and showers are spotless with plenty of hot water. There is a small shop in reception for essentials and they serve coffee. There is a bus stop outside, which is really handy. Large children's play area, we didn't have our grandchildren with us to try it out. But it looked great fun.

We come every year around Sidmouth folk festival. A well maintained small and friendly campsite. A bus stop outside for easy trips into Sidmouth and beyond. Food made on site from bacon butties to pizzas. A small shop on site for those essentials. Facilities are fairly modern with plenty of toilets and showers so never usually a queue even on busy days! Plenty of electric hook ups and large spaces for the children to play including a play area with swings and a slide. All in all a brilliant camp site!
