Jeffries Mill Cottages - Herons’ Weir
Somerset
Photo: Google Maps
Families and small groups will find Herons' Weir works well for a Somerset break. The cottage sleeps five across three bedrooms, each with its own shower room or bathroom—useful when you have people of different ages or routines. Ground floor has the living space, kitchen and a utility room with washing machine; upstairs are the three bedrooms. The building was converted from an old industrial workshop and retains character with oak doors and furniture, marble floors, and underfloor heating throughout. Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels and electricity are included, and there's wood for the burner if you visit between September and May.
The real draw is the riverside setting. The cottage overlooks the River Mells and Jeffries Mill weir, and the private terrace is genuinely positioned for watching wildlife—otters, herons, dippers, kingfishers and fish all appear here regularly. There's a BBQ area for outdoor meals and parking for three cars on site. Frome itself is just over a mile away, a market town with independent shops, cafés and a strong weekly and monthly market scene. The surrounding area has picturesque villages and riverside walks within easy reach. Children under 12 are not accommodated, and smoking is not permitted inside.
