Extremely Disappointing Stay – Serious Data Concerns & Poor Experience. We stayed at Chilworth Manor last week and sadly the whole experience was extremely disappointing. Around three months before our stay, I began receiving WhatsApp messages and emails from a company pretending to be Best Western. They had our stay dates, booking reference, email address and phone number — information only the hotel should have had. This is a serious concern and strongly suggests a data breach. I contacted Chilworth Manor immediately and was told they’d had “a few calls” and that Best Western would contact me. Nobody ever did. I continued receiving scam messages right up until the day we arrived, despite reporting this three separate times and asking what data of mine had been compromised. I never received a single response. On arrival, the driveway and entrance are undeniably beautiful, but unfortunately the positives ended there. Our room was dated and not what you’d expect for the price. At dinner, my meal was nice, but my husband’s steak — ordered rare — arrived very well done, chewy and unpleasant. He didn’t send it back as he didn’t want me eating alone. The waitress acknowledged the issue and offered a replacement, but he barely touched the steak and only ate the mushroom and chips. Despite this, the bill arrived with the full charge for his dish. I said I wasn’t prepared to pay for something he didn’t eat. They removed 50%, but even then it was around £16 for mushrooms and chips, which felt unreasonable given they were fully aware of the issue. The bed was another disappointment — springs digging into our backs, rolling into the middle, and an overall terrible night’s sleep. For the price, a comfortable bed is the bare minimum. To top it off, the lift was broken the next morning. We had cruise luggage with us and had to carry everything downstairs, which was extremely difficult as I’m currently dealing with a back injury. Although the staff were friendly, the overall experience was terrible, and the unresolved data breach concerns make it even worse. We left feeling let down, uncomfortable, and very much out of pocket.

This hotel is nice enough but needs investment and to examine its pricing structure. It looks and feels dated. Everything was 'okay, but very expensive'. The hotel is clean with good staff, but the food and rooms were average at best and extremely overpriced. The most annoying thing for me was that a pint of lemonade and lime was more expensive than any of the pints of beer. That is simply wrong. I had an Executive Room. I suspect this just means that your room is in the original house rather than the annex. Again, it was 'okay, but very expensive'. It was dated and very, very small. I had to confirm at reception that it was an Executive Room. The receptionist had obviously been asked this before as they weren't surprised in the slightest by my asking. My friends who had standard rooms had larger, better rooms and paid less. I would normally expect to pay half the amount for this type of room. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night. It was very average and very expensive. Portions were small and the taste nothing special. We agreed we would not eat there on our second night. We went to a local pub which is 5 minutes walk away. The meal was delicious and less than half the price. Breakfast, likewise, was average. I've never seen so many differently sized plates stacked for use by the customers. It is a breakfast buffet, and it was luke warm. If I had paid half the amount for this hotel, I would have been pleased and given it a good review, but, as it stands, it is way overpriced, average and I would not stay there again.

Perfect location to stay overnight before heading to the cruise port in Southampton. Friendly, professional staff, spotlessly clean, room furniture a little dated, but perfectly adequate. Beautiful grounds, tasty bar meals & excellent breakfast plus added extra of a nice indoor swimming pool.

Grounds are lovely but the bathmat in our room was so incredibly mouldy and we couldn't get hold of anyone to come and change it. I'm disabled so couldn't just walk to reception so am reliant on being able to phone them. No one answered and I left a voicemail but no help came. Additionally the cleaner walked in on us as she had been told we had checked out. So although the grounds are beautiful and the hotel itself is okay, I would not stay again due to the hygiene and not feeling safe after having been walked in on.
