What diners say
Fabulous experience in great location. Top notch meals, stylish yet cosy atmosphere, friendly staff (even other customers), and Saturday afternoon piano man playing relaxing tunes. Must visit!

The food here was amazing and the lamb neck that I had was soft, tender, and tasty. I loved the taste of the school cake. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this place for dinner

My husband and I recently held our pub wedding reception for 33 people on the first floor of Market Coffee House, and from the very beginning Catherine and her team truly smashed it out of the park. They customised a menu to suit both British and Chinese tastes (as half of the reception guestlist were from Hong Kong) while exemplifying the ethos of their head chef - seasonal British food with a quirky twist - and being so thoughtful with each detail. The pub itself is absolutely stunning and steeped in detail and history. We wanted to make use of the beautiful space they have upstairs but put a couple of touches on it that were our own, for example bromeliad table centrepieces and other tropical plants as we are frog owners. Catherine put up with my stressing over every last detail of the day, and is the kind of restaurant manager who has hospitality down to pay - she knows exactly what you need (and no more!), and will suggest it to you with a gentle nudge, before you even knew you needed it. The Market Coffee House accounted for several severe nut/seafood allergies, being incredibly kind and helping us as the bride and groom manage a wonderful evening within budget. We held a sit-down dinner in the space around their stairwell, with canapes and oysters plus champagne to start, before 3 courses and a wedding cake. The courses we had included: asparagus and eggs, crab and prawn toast, salmon/tuna tartare with melon, and delicious bread and butter for starters, then whole plaice with a lemony capery gremolata and roast pork belly for mains, with tenderstem and lovely new potatoes cooked with herbs, and a ratatouille that was low key the favourite of the night…plus stunningly floral strawberries and zingy oranges served as the dessert course, since in Chinese/Cantonese culture fruit often takes the place of dessert. We also had additional post-reception guests who were attending just for drinks afterwards and the team put out some wonderful cheeseboards out for them. Catherine coordinated timings and handling of our wedding cake, which I was very particular about, and made sure that the cake supplier could drop off the cake at a time that suited everyone while making sure. We had eaten at Market Coffee House a few times for downstairs with just the right volume of jazz pianist, and will be coming back again and again for normal meals for sure. I really do believe you couldn’t do much better than Market Coffee House for anything from an intimate date to a larger pub wedding reception like ours. The experience will be life-changing either way!

It is rare in London to have a place where music is not blasting at you while you try to hold a conversation over a dinner. This is a rare place where you can enjoy a meal with friends without shouting at each other. Even on a Friday evening, it was pretty calm. It is even more surprising considering the prominent location right next to the market. The venue is a mix of a restaurant and pub sections. The food is really good (we tested the whole range), in a classic British pub manner. The service was great as well, friendly, helpful. And the interior is super stylish a well. Great experience.
