About 196 Bishopsgate
Pubs, restaurants and eateries sit within easy reach of 196 Bishopsgate, making it a straightforward base for evenings out without needing to travel far. The hotel itself doesn't run its own dining room, but guests have laundry and cooking facilities on site, which suits anyone wanting to put together their own meals rather than eat out every night.
The hotel has 47 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, and practical extras including a lift, luggage storage, concierge services, business facilities and airport transfers. Some rooms have been reported as needing better upkeep, and the lift is not always reliable, so it's worth bearing in mind if stairs or room condition matter to you.
The location is the strongest card here, with Liverpool Street station close by along with shops, bars and restaurants, and staff are noted as helpful. Chessington World of Adventures is also mentioned as a nearby point of interest for those looking further afield.

What guests say
Stayed for an event in London. The rooms surpassed my expectations. The staff really were awesome, nothing too much trouble. And you can't get closer to the station

After a long day of a touring around some chosen places in southern England, we arrived at 196 Bishopsgate. It defies me how anybody could give anything more than a one star rating for this dump. The front desk could not process a credit card payment and required some sort of email link to log onto a third party payment center. Cash, of course, would be happily accepted. Thank goodness we didn’t pay cash and the aforementioned email link never came through (also thankfully). After checking in, we were given a “first floor” room which was actually one story up. The lift was out of service so it was necessary to carry all our suitcases up the stairs. We were given room 102 which was so bad we couldn’t bear to stay. The hardwood floors were so worn and dirty that we wouldn’t dare to walk without shoes on. The walls were banged up and dirty. There was a dirty smell to the place. There was a totally worn out leather couch and two matching, equally worn out, leather chairs, one of which had a torn back. Several of the lights didn’t work at all. The bathroom toilet could only be flushed every fifteen minutes and it was pulling away from the wall so badly that the caulk was completely separated. The bathroom granite floor tile was stained so badly from a toilet leak that I’d never get out of a shower onto that floor. The bathtub also looked as though it should have been replaced thirty years ago. It was disgusting! Before booking this place, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!

Location is fantastic, just near the station and near loads of shops, bars, and restaurants. Maybe I'm being picky as it's not that expensive for the location but the room i had could have done with a new blind (was a bit torn up) and the cistern lid on the toilet looked like it had been knawed on by a drunken beaver. Besides that though, all the appliances you'd expect and in working order. I'd still stay again.

1. It's advertised as a property with an elevator. The elevator is not working and will not be working for months. I booked this place specifically because it says it has a lift. I have an injury and I had to climb 75 steps every day up and down 2. The rooms are in bad shape. Beds are broken, tiles are loose in the toilet and kitchen. Fabric is torn on all the sofas. My partner and I couldn't sleep because of how much sound the bed made 3. Hot water is limited. If 2 people are sharing a room you need to space showers to get hot water. 4. It's not even close to 4 starts. I'd give it 2 stars I wish I could add videos I have taken
