About Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa
No hotel in Scotland is more closely bound to a golf course than this one. The building sits hard against the seventeenth fairway of the Old Course, so that the Road Hole and its notorious bunker are effectively part of the view from the front rooms, and the R&A clubhouse and the eighteenth green are a two-minute walk along the Links Road.
Rooms are large by St Andrews standards and split between those facing the courses and the West Sands, and quieter ones looking inland over the town rooftops towards the cathedral. The Kohler Waters Spa occupies the upper floors, with a hydrotherapy pool and a relaxation area that makes the most of the sea outlook, and there is a rooftop terrace that comes into its own on long summer evenings.
Dining runs from the fine-dining Road Hole Restaurant, with its full-length windows over the links, to the more relaxed Sands Grill and the informal Jigger Inn, a whitewashed former stationmaster's cottage in the grounds that functions as the hotel's pub and is popular with players coming off the course. The hotel also owns the Duke's, a heathland course in the hills above the town, for guests who want a round without entering the Old Course ballot.

My wife and I stayed in this wonderful hotel for two nights as part of our Edinburgh Military Tattoo Tour. None of us in this group were golfers but we were very much enjoyed. All the staffs were very, very nice. The breakfast and the group dinner we had were really top notch. The view from the hotel or you just walk around the course was amazing! We saw a beautiful rainbow after the rain and the sunset on the course was as beautiful as it can be!

We chose the Old Course Hotel for our elopement-style wedding with just six guests, and Jess was our wedding coordinator. Although it was a small wedding, we never felt any less important than the larger celebrations the hotel hosts. From the start, Jess took care of everything and kept in touch throughout with exactly the right amount of communication. We had very little idea of how the day would unfold and expected it to be quite simple—a ceremony, some photographs, a meal and a few drinks. What we experienced was so much more than that. Jess coordinated every aspect of the day and made it feel incredibly special. Everything ran seamlessly, and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Looking back, that's probably a good job, as we hadn't given much thought to the logistics ourselves! Every member of staff we dealt with before, during and after the wedding was wonderful and made us feel genuinely valued. The entire day flowed effortlessly, and I know that was down to Jess and her team. I still think back to our wedding regularly and wonder how everything came together so perfectly. The answer is undoubtedly the organisation, professionalism and calm, reassuring manner of Jess and the team. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I stayed in room 151 on a business trip. The room was small, but very clean and well equipped. Nespresso with shortbread cookies refilled daily is nice touch. Housekeeping service is top notch as it should be. Turn down service and daily cleaning is great. Room service and breakfast were included in my rate. As others have said the staff is a stand out. I can’t specifically recognize any one person as all are so very welcoming and attentive. One never feels that the staff are going through the motions. Food was excellent at our event and the restaurants. I would stay here again if coming to St. Andrews.

We recently stayed at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews for one night to celebrate my birthday, and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations, from the beautiful room to the outstanding service. The hotel made my birthday feel extra special with a thoughtful card waiting in our room on arrival, which was such a lovely touch. The spa facilities were incredible—truly one of the highlights of our visit. The thoughtful extras like flavoured water, plush robes, and health shots really elevated the experience and made it feel so luxurious. We also had lunch at the spa café, where the lovely girl serving us went above and beyond. Although I didn’t catch her name, she surprised me with a cake with “Happy Birthday” written on it, which was such a kind and memorable gesture. A huge thank you to David and Neil from the concierge team, who were absolutely fantastic. Their service was exceptional, and they truly made our stay unforgettable—they are a real asset to the hotel. Room service was excellent, and breakfast the next morning was just as impressive. Overall, a flawless experience—we can’t wait to return!
