Photo: The Old Byre

Leek sits on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands, within reach of some of England's best-known destinations. The Old Byre is a converted barn on a country road, retaining period features and exposed timbers, set back from its owners' home on 6 acres of grounds. Two bedrooms and a bathroom occupy the ground floor, along with a generous open-plan living space anchored by a woodburning stove. A stable door from the kitchen steps out to a courtyard; a decked garden area with furniture overlooks the lawned gardens beyond. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, the other two singles; the bathroom has a bath with shower over. Parking for two cars sits on the property.

The kitchen is equipped for cooking from scratch, with an electric cooker and microwave. You get Wi-Fi, heating, linen and towels included; initial logs for the stove are provided too. A washing machine and tumble dryer are in the utility room, and a travel cot is available. The shared grounds include a bike store. A pub lies within a mile; shops are 2½ miles away. This is a proper walking base—numerous footpaths start from the door, and you're positioned for exploring on foot or by car: Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers and Carsington Water are all within easy reach. The property draws water from a spring; there's a step to the decked area and a fenced stream runs through the grounds. One well-behaved dog is welcome.

My husband and I took a short break at this place. We fell in love with the cottage, the views are excellent 10/10, and we have got everything we need. The town of Leek is not too far, about 5 mins. We highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great little house, dog friendly and amazing views across the valley. Hosts very helpful and prompt response to any queries. Local pub was also very good and only a mile away, but it's a big hill to walk back to the house and very little road with not much space to get out of the way of traffic, not ideal if you have a dog or not so fit.

Absolutely stunning!!! Just had one amazing weekend here, as soon as we got there we felt very welcomed with hand picked flowers and specially made delicious shortbread, we couldn't have asked for more, the cottage had everything we needed, it was warm, it's was very clean, it was amazing, we didn't want to come home. Can't wait to book again. The surroundings views are epic, the local pub/restaurant was awesome, the food couldn't be better. Thanks again guys for having us.
