What visitors say
This was our first stop on our nearly two week jaunt around beautiful Scotland and it truly set the tone for an amazing trip! Set on Loch Lomond, the campsite is fantastic mix of wild camp with a hint of “we got you” (i.e. well maintained composting toilets that initially had my nervous but left me pleasantly surprised!). There is a small open field section with a few spots designated for single camper tents as well as bigger, multi-person tents. Along a small, wooded path are more places to set up camp that can include a fire pit and wood (upon request/purchase). They seem to all be circling the loch with access to the water and plenty of space between spots. The loch itself is gorgeous! Cold, clear waters are a great place to soak your feet after a little hike or to just set up a chair along the bank and take in the view.

We spent two nights on loch side pitch 4 and loved it. The facilities were as described - basic but clean enough. The only downside was people using the sanitary bins in the toilets for general waste rather than taking rubbish home with them. This meant that they were both overflowing and did not have space for sanitary waste. The ground on the pitch was very hard which we didn’t find an issue for sleeping on but was uncomfortable for sitting around camp if you don’t have chairs with you! Absolutely stunning view and great location all round. We were late arrivals and the system for getting the code to unlock the gate worked well.

We arrived to our pitch along the loch, number 6. First impression was that I’ve booked the worst pitch, it was small, muddy and impossible to find a spot that was level without roots. Just as we got the tent up it started to rain. The facilities lacked roofed seating. The only place you could take shelter was your own tent or the toilets that was quite literally disgusting. I have no issues with dry toilets but these had pee all over and around the seat and lid so you couldn’t touch it. It felt dirty and unhygienic. The muddy pitch got even muddier in the rain and the tent and everything that wasn’t inside the inner tent got muddy and extremely dirty. The lack of good pitching ground and lack of general cover made this experience hell on earth. As it was raining we couldn’t make a fire with the prepaid wood or cook our dinner any other place than next to the toilets. How about build a roofed seating area and perhaps a place to make a fire in cover from the rain as that’s not an unheard occurrence in Scotland.
